Jaguar XF / Am I mad?

The 2.7 are before a small refresh they did that changed the design of the wing mirrors and a few other bits, improved the sat nav to include a turn display in the dash. The 2.7 is not as refined, powerful or efficient as the 3.0 but not a lot different.

Servicing will cost you about 1,000 over 3 servies so 3 years or 18,000 miles (3.0D), tyres are 255/35/20s all round on the 3.0D

Xenons are a must have as the standard lights on the pre-face lift are shocking, B&W Stereo is also worth having.

MPG is obviously dependant on how its driven, but an average of mid 30's is easily doable, and on long runs I've had 45+ mpg out of my 1st XF DS and over 47 out of my current one.

Thanks everyone. Opinions on the XF are more positive than I was expecting!

It definitely needs to be the 3.0, although whether it's the Sport or not isn't a deal breaker. Looking at them in more detail online it looks like I need to stretch to 19k to get what I really want. Not having the extras of the premium would really bug me, where as the portfolio spec is purely a nice to have.

Bear, how are you finding the MPG on yours so far and how does it compare to previous cars you have owned? Also have you found any niggles you don't like or things you are really impressed by?

Comparing the mpg of the XF to my previous car is pretty much pointless as my previous car was/is a modified 200Sx so the fuel consumption on it was around 20mpg and often far less. I currently get low 30s as I do a lot of mixed mileage. I am doing a 2700 mile euro road trip starting this weekend so will reset and see what sort of mpg I am getting from the trip.

The XF has no niggles what so ever, it is still in warranty so I would get it fixed anyway if it did. I absolutely love the car, it is so comfortable and driving is effortless and because it is, I have found I am a lot more relaxed driving now I guess my opinions are some what skewed as I have no previous experience of luxury cars so that has be taken into account.

The only thing I dont like specifically with the car is the heavily assisted brakes which is one of my pet hates about VWs but I have gotten used to it. Also there is noticeable throttle lag but I think its more to do with the auto box than the car itself as all auto boxes I have ever driven have that lag but you can drive around it.

The US cars I have driven on holiday have comedy auto boxes where you slam your foot to the floor and wait a second or two before it actually does something, the XF is faster to react but it is still noticable.

Cheers Bear. It will be interesting to see what you get on a run, I would really like to average 40mpg.

Over a long run you will easily get over 40, the most I've seen is just shy of 47mpg average on my pre-facelift XFS. Average over a tank will depend on town driving as on the pre-facelift that drags the MPG down a fair amount.

Thanks. By facelift do you mean the revised version from about 9 months ago with daylight running lights or a previous facelift?

Yes the one with the DRL is the facelift, the previous changes came in when they switched from the 4.2 v8/SC and 2.7 to the 5.0v8/XFR and 3.0D/DS
