Nobody can really be awful at reviewing games unless they have terrible writing skills.
A review is just the opinion of the person writing it, the only difference between that opinion and mine is that someone pays for it.
When I'm deciding on a game I usually look up videos of gameplay and check around forums to see what people who have bought and played the game are saying because nobody pays to hear their opinion (and possibly tell them what their opinion should be for extra cash) and if I'm still not sure then I'll rent it out.
Most review sites should just have
"Paid us"
"Didn't pay us"
as their scores.
Of course there are always games I know I must have, such as the new Fallout game, was a first day purchase. This Bond one will definitely be a rental.
