** January Transfer Window 2011/12 Season Rumours/Signings **

Should Owen be in the list, the deal itself was seemingly stupid in terms of wage and the likes, but if they'd got him on a somewhat decent pay as you play deal he scored some important goals and not a terrible amount.

Even then to be fair, looking at his list of seasons pre-newcastle, he wasn't actually a sicknote till you signed him was he, so more seriously bad luck.

The rest, yeah, deserve to be there, of course, neither Ameobi listed?

Owen, like Viduka, didn't really have any interest in playing for us. Just happy to take the cash.

Strola wasn't on there because in order to get the list as complete as possible I went though the transfer lists for the last 16 years. Of course, he's not on there. I've not included the likes of Chopra or Paul Dalgleish either.

Sammy Ameobi isn't on there as he is (was, before injury) only just beginning to break into the first team.

He's one of those players who has been average for many years, in average leagues, and had 1-2 decent seasons lately. I remember Tottenham being linked to him as he has something like a 1 goal in 2 games ratio over the last season and a half in Germany (I think), but before that hadn't done much. Will be interesting to see how he does here, and if he is a replacement for Ba, as I've seen floating about today.

Just checked his recorded on his break though season in 2008 he has managed to score a goal every other game. Would not call that average.

Proved himself in France made the step up to Germany proved himself there. Seems the next step up is England.

Newcastle seem to want youngish, hungry players. Who want to prove them self in a better league.

Get the best years out of them then ship them out.

I believe Tiote has always stated he wants to stay for a few years prove himself then move to one of the massive clubs.

am glad we not overpaying for players who come in on massive wages who have lost the drive to improve.

I just know now not to get to attached to a player as if a silly offer comes in he will be sold.

A canny one that you have missed off that list is Antoine Sibierski! I feared the worst when he signed but he wasnt half bad if Im being honest!

I'm not entirely sure about Owen, his strike rate in his first season was pretty great for you, just didn't play nearly enough and the next season was injury crazy, after that while he didn't hit 1 in 2, he wasn't that far off in an ever worsening Newcastle team.

I think he came back from Real with a pretty decent record but like seemingly most English players, not really liking playing abroad and had he stayed injury free he would have made a pretty damn good signing and scored a crapload more for you.

Owen also seemed to have something to prove after being branded a failure at Real(much like Hunterlaar, Ibra and now Villa are all being branded despite all having way above average scoring rates), the problem was Newcastle did have a bunch of last big payday players at the same time, Viduka, Geremi, Smith and guys who were hurting the club, bringing the team down, playing like crap.

I really can't tell with Owen, I think its too easy to tar him with the other players who were that at the same time but when I saw him play, he looked decent, just unlucky with injuries.

Utd comes across as more mercenary but still when he actually does play for Utd, he doesn't look lazy, gets goals, just not at his best.

Yup, the thing well, that is what Moyes should have been doing. Had Everton never paid silly money for Fellani, Yakubu and (at least in wages) Saha, they'd both have far less debt and have had money to bring in some youngsters in there "just before a big move" phase.

Wenger used to capitalise on that, this isn't most businesses. There is ALWAYS another cheap young player who is a very very good player, three four epic deals at least get done a season where you think how did you get that guy for that little. Kompany, Kolo was sub 100k iirc and we got 15mil for him, I can't remember.

Football is business and there are some rich STUPID clubs out there. Keep buying young, keep looking for good deals, and KEEP SELLING. Its clubs who desperately hold on to players too long who end up in trouble, or those buying experienced high wage players by the bucketload who end up in financial trouble. THe ones who keep the team fresh, keep selling players and keep buying do well. Arsenal did that a lot in Wenger's first 6-7 years, and the last 6-7 years buying more expensive players, older players, higher wage players... and winning nothing.

In a year or two you sell Tiote for 25-30mil and buy the next Tiote for 5mil, rinse repeat every 5 years........ win.

If Fat Sam had bought in that years Cabaye, Tiote, Ba instead of Owen, Viduka, Smith........ and other crap... Newcastle may never have got into bad debt, or relegated in the first place.

Thing is if you also establish yourself as that club to go to young to establish yourself and get a move to a top 4 team..... more young players will be more willing to spend a couple years at Newcastle than risk a few years on the bench at a Real, Utd, City. Lets say Hazard was only 10mil, and given the option to go to Utd, Real or Newcastle, normally the first two but with Newcastle you have a decent side, playing attacking football that will give him first team football no question while at Utd/Real he might end up as one of the many who come, stagnate on the bench and end up somewhere crap. Where 2-3 years at Newcastle could get you far more well known, move to a bigger club on a better deal and be first team straight away.

This is off the top of my head, so could be wrong, but -

1 in 3 in France
1 in 2 in Germany

Considering previous imports, that probably related to something like 1 in 4 in the Prem. However, considering his fee of £10m, that actually sounds about right for a 10 goal a season player (again considering he'll miss a month for African cup of Nations each year). I'm also not convinced a 26 year old is a young hungry player these days, that to me sounds like someone at his peak, and starting to lose value. If you keep him 2-3 years, you'll probably at best recoup the money, unless he has a blinder, like Ba.

But hey, I could be wrong, after all I did doubt Gervinho's scoring prowess after seeing his amazing stats in France :P

That's where the Delph money went...

And the irony that when more money from sellin gplayers goes into Bates' pocket Delph is looking likely to come back in on loan :o

I guess it's just another dip on the rollercoaster that is being a Leeds fan, I'm not sure how low this coaster goes but it's getting pretty close to hitting the floor.

Bates out.

:D

Problem there is I would guess Gervinho and dezeko are on massive wages already and long term contracts What drive do they need?

Newcastle are dangling golden carrots in front of their new signings. They have to earn a payrise or a move to a bigger club.

Cisse stats from 2008 (he only played 4 games in 2007) Games Sub Goals
Season Totals 33 4 15
Season Totals 26 6 13
Season Totals 34 0 24
Season Totals 17 0 9
Think he has 7 out of 12 for Senegal also

Now am not saying he going to be a goal machine in England but he certainly knows where the back of the net is.

He will have the service at the Toon as well (though I would personally prefer a better right winger than Obe to give it) I'm not expecting him to hit 25 a season but a good solid partnership with Demba could be rewarding.

As said yesterday though we now just need to wait on **** head 'arry to tell us how much his release clause is, his salary and everything else that went on in the negotiations because he is such a knowlegable* chap.

* By Knowlegable I mean a complete ****** who tries to tap up players but hates it when it happens to his own.

We've reportedly agreed a deal to sign the 19 year old Sporting Lisbon midfielder, Joao Teixeira. He was part of a Sporting Lisbon youth side that came to Anfield to play in some European Youth competition and both Teixeira and Sporting as a team were massively impressive. It was probably the best youth team performance I can remember seeing; they tore us to pieces for the first 45 minutes.

As well as that, we're reportedly in for the 20 year old Uruguay forward David Texeira who plays for the same Dutch side that Suarez first joined, Groningen.

I really don't understand why you don't work in football DM.
You know everything about transfers, wages, how to make a profit, when to buy, when to sell, who to buy and who to sell and so on.

Regarding City transfers, no one in apart from the youngsters and both Ben Mee and Kieran Trippier out to Burnley on permanent deals.

.

Just don't understand why Pardew just wont play Ben Arfa there :/ He plays on the wing for France....

The way Egghead and talyor played past few games he will have to soon.

Have Swansea not got something stupid like the best pass completion rate / pass rate in Europe?

I'm sure I read that one of their players (name escapes me) has the best pass rate in Europe too, ahead of the likes of Xavi and Iniesta and Cesc at Barcelona. Incredible stat.

SSN showed a stat before the Arsenal game that put them right up there, certainly not ahead of Barca though (think they were like 4th or 5th in Europe)
