January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

A lot has been said that he'll play out wide but Suarez likes to roam a lot, which at the moment means we have no recognised striker in the box. If the two can strike up an understanding Sturridge should get plenty of opportunities to move into the middle.

I'd imagine that Suarez's position and role within the side won't change. He starts centrally but he's got the freedom to roam around the pitch as much as he likes. The advantage of having somebody like Sturridge in the side is that he'll naturally look to get into the box from his starting position on the wing - something neither Sterling nor Downing do.

You only have to look at Enrique's short stint on the wing to see how productive a wide player can be if he gets in the box when Suarez roams around; he scored one, had a perfectly good goal ruled out vs Swansea and came very close to scoring a couple of other times - and all he done was make runs to the back post when Suarez pulled out wide/dropped off.

That's what I've been thinking but I won't make too much of it as we've had so much disappoint from our recent signings! :p

I think Sturridge will do very well with a decent run in the side and shut a lot of people up.

Well I guess his best form so far in his career has been when he's been at a mid table side so you never know ;) :p

tbh without knowing what Liverpool supporters are hoping from him it's hard to judge the transfer, will he score more goals than someone like Stirling? Most likely. Are those goals going to be enough to make a sizeable impact in Liverpool's league position (as in top 4)? No, not imo, he's not good enough to make that kind of impact.

I guess I'm biased I've always liked him. He just has been at the wrong club to get a run in the side. If rooney played as often at Chelsea and was benched for Torres he would miss loads and lack form too. Look at what happens to Rooney when he gets a months rest, you get a pile of excuses about not being match sharp. Perhaps sturridge just needs games too?

I think he is a good buy and it's a shame he didn't leave earlier.

Of course if I'm wrong and he ends up sucking then the majority were right :)

Never heard of him but there's a centre back at Molde (Solskjaer's club) Vegard Forren who's moving imminently (he's left the clubs training camp in South Africa to finalise his move). Been linked with us & Everton.....

So Joe Cole is again leaving Liverpool, and again effectively subsidising his wages for another year, lol. Personally if you end up paying him 3-4mil to top off the wages West Ham are offering, you may as well just actually use him in the damn team.

If you can persuade him to go on a free with a minimal pay off that is one thing, if he has 18 months of contract left(he joined in the summer, seems odd he'd have 18 months left?) and you're paying him off for basically a year of salary you aren't saving much while losing a player. If you can get away with a year pay off and he had 3 years left, the saving would be worth it.

either way, this is why you don't look at other clubs flops who run out their contract as good deals people ;)

He's constantly injured and we have better options. He's on a 100k a week (nice work Purslow). Every week he don't pay for him is good for us and if he can find his fitness at West Ham good luck to him.

Rumours this morning of Nick Powell moving to Posh on loan after being sighted at their match at the weekend

Seems a strange one to me, not least because I thought he would start in the FA Cup match this weekend

Powell hasn't looked completely out of place in the games he has started so I'm not sure a loan outside the Premiership would really benefit him. I suppose games are better than no games though.

Debuchery deal done pending a medical, hopefully just the start of the business.

Hope we can get a CB in time for the Norwich game, Williamson was dreadful last night.

I hope Pardew plays the reserves at the weekend too, I couldn't care less if we get knocked out of the cup, we need to focus on the league. Stop tiring out the first 11.

Pick this team

Ameobi Richardson Abeid Amalfitano

This is what confuses me about Sturridge to Liverpool. He doesn't want to play out wide but Suarez obviously needs to keep having a free role. This means that either Liverpool switch to 442 with no wingers in the squad or Sturridge is a bench warmer again or he has to play wide in a front 3 with who else?

Sturridge will provide an option but doesn't appear to immediately fit in the team unless it is wide left which Sturridge doesn't like.

This is where Rodgers makes his money no suppose. I think it is a useful transfer for Liverpool but a terrible one for Sturridge.

Or all 3 front men interchange positions throughout the game maybe

In his interview on the LFC site Sturridge says he has not demanded to play centrally and will play where he is asked to. He does think his qualities suit playing as a central striker, which is fair enough as he is obviously entitled to his opinion, and it isn’t like he won’t get chances to play there anyway in Cup/Europa games where we don’t want to play Suarez, or when he gets injured/suspended, etc.

We won’t switch to a 442 as the system we have spent half a season bedding in relies on having a midfield 3. The existing setup needs more goals from the wide forwards as the players there at the moment have been underperforming (Downing), are too young (Sterling), or haven’t had time to settle yet and have been injured (Borini).

Suarez will start centrally with Sturridge wide and the forward 3 will interchange as Suarez roams.

Perhaps Suarez is moving on in the summer and this time they have prepared in advance ;)
