January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

Spurs have no problems with the quotas whatsoever, to fill the 25 man squad you need only 8 homegrown players (nationality is largely irrelevant) and finding 8 of them is easy:

Just out of interest isnt there something about English U21 players not requiring a squad space (Fryers is barely 20 years old)

He looked like a decent prospect from the few games I saw him play at Utd, so ~£4m is a reasonable deal all around (although I think its highly unlikley this deal wasnt arranged in the summer, which is dubious to say the least)

but that would mean we resort to one striker? neither of who are being particularly clinical atm. manu has shown glimpses but he's better at creating than finishing from what i've seen recently and defoe has been shooting like there's a gun to his head.

defoe has put a lot away but he's annoyingly one dimensional.

we do need more depth and we do need to prepare for the scenario of losing bale. our bench is pretty lacklustre atm.

don't forget the ACON either, if manu goes, we're screwed, if defoe get's injured then we're relying on dempsey as our attacking front! i wouldn't actually mind seeing how dempsey coped on his own upfront with sig but it's not a scenario i'd be happy with long term.

The same argument could be made of our midfield positions. We have ridiculous strength in defence but our attacking threat does not have much depth with specialists ready to slip in. If defoe and ade went out, either Dempsey could play there or more likely, Bale would play centrally.

Because our team is so good at keeping possession at the moment, defoe is getting the ammo he needs to score goals. He will shoot as soon as he gets the ball, but get the ballto him on the edge of the area and he will get goals from this .

Villa would be good but ultimately a luxury. We saw what happens with Dembele out; our play gets really wallowy and slow. I know nothing about this Holte chap but he seems to be one for the future.

I suppose one thing we could try again is Dembele much higher up the pitch with sandro and parker behind him. Early in the season we were adapting and the 606 rants that you can't play 2 defensive midfielders at home may be reversed now that we are more comfortable in AVB's system.

Ho hum, play on Levy!

the thing about fryer's, is he's joined spurs' development squad. he may not even cut the mustard for first team! it's a little bizarre as we have paid a little more than i thought we would've done (app it's 3.75m) which isn't mad money but it's a chunk for someone who isn't proven pl quality in all honesty.

be interesting to see how he develops. BAE is decent but wreckless at times and has been rumoured to be sold and his injury is taking a long time to come good, rose looks ok as a sunderland player, not sure if he could be a future spurs player tbh so the lb position certainly needed addressing.

on the holtby thing. app we are getting him on a 'free' next summer due to a pre-contract agreement and he is going to be on over £60k p/w?!

not sure if any of the above is accurate but there's a few reliable people saying the same figures. bonkers but if it plans for the future then i'm all for it. holtby is not concrete yet though.

A&E can never leave! He is hugely underrated and a v important player for us (yes, Baines is better, but there are not many others in the PL I would choose over A&E). A&E also came out and said the rumours were nonsense.

Though he is pretty poor at LB, Vert is almost certainly an upgrade on Fryers and Rose (at present).

Rumours surround the future of Coloccini, his Dad coming out saying he wants to leave to join up with him...

There is something going on, as there was a bust up between him and Pardew, and everyone can see the Coloccini has not been playing anywhere near as good as he was last season.

Hope it's not true

Where's his dad?

I don't care, get rid. Been useless thinks he's better than he is. If we get rid of him and Tiote I'd be happy.

Youth Development manager at San Lorenzo.

He is only poor because he is playing in a poor side. And tiote still gives it 100% every game. Yes he has given the ball away too many times, but he needs Cabaye in the side to help him out with that. Tiote is not a distributor, he's a ball winner.

Nobody who was wore a Newcastle strip can say they have had a good season. Krul has underperformed many times already. Simpson has been on another planet all season, Williamson has a worse touch than a ******. Cisse hasn't been given the role he wants, and is shocking defensively. Yes Ba has scored goals, but he's been extremely greedy. His shots to goals ratio isn't that good.

Santon and Anita have been a shining light, but lately it's been apparent they look either exhausted or have realised no matter how hard they try, the rest of the team aren't going to do enough to get the win anyway.

I think we have Cabaye to thank for that. Only reason I can think why he would give up a career at Lille to join an underachieving club...

Indeed, my only worry is this has been dragging on for so long, and we have had to put up with Simpson, that most of the fans think Debucey is going to be amazing. I wonder if he will live up to the expectation...

As poor as some of the players have been playing this season (lets be honest compared to last) we can't start selling more players.

I don't want us to lose anyone else yet, we deffo need to add.

Striker/Winger/defender. at least.

In terms of who we bring in as a striker, it's just going to be pot luck if they hit it running

I wish he had the first half of the season to bed in. Unfortunately he has joined a poor team, who are in poor form. He alone cannot turn our fortunes around.

This season relies on the teams below us doing a lot worse than us. Hopefully we can stay up and next season we can try again.

I do have faith that with Cabaye returning, hopefully Debuchy providing better cover than Simpson, who was a liability. That we have enough talent to survive. We do still need a CB, Taylor is far too injury prone, and Williamson isn't good enough for the championship...

Williamson didn't do too badly last season, probably because colo was playing so well.

Maybe another decent CB coming in will make them two up their game, maybe...

We can't forget that we have been a bit unlucky, losing our best players (considering our squad size)

A fit Cabye returning will definitely help us and if we had Ben Arfa back it would be great. We played well for good portion of the game against Everton as well, unlucky to go 1-1 in that game realistically and had plenty chances to score another.

Be nice to win this weekend, might boost our confidence, but the next 3 games in the league are 2 wins at least. Norwich will be the toughest

I wonder if it has anything to do with the boat-load of cash he's gonna be paid??

Didn't Newcastle learn their lesson in buying French defenders with Boumsong??

Yes we have been unlucky, the Fellaini free-kick was never a free-kick. We should have had 2 pens if so.

But we need to start making our own luck, and do enough in a game to see games off.

A new CB and cover for Cisse and I will consider this a good window. Ba was causing problems for Pardew, so I'm not fussed he has gone.

Krul
Debuchy/?/Colo/Santon
Cabaye/Tiote/Anita
Ben Arfa/Cisse/Marveaux

Hopefully they can all remain fit for the duration of the season.

Colo has been poor, it hasn't helped being in a bad team but he has been shocking. Compared to last season he seems to never communicate, he's constantly out of position and seems to always dive in. Last season he led the defence and look like he had a clue, now he's as clueless as Williamson. That combined with reports a few times this year in local press saying he has been arguing with Pardew he clearly think's he is too big for us, fine, off you go. I'd argue with Pardew too, but when we are in this situation the players need to pull together not start causing issues, hence why Ba leaving may help a little.

I don't know which team you have been watching but Tiote has been gash, added to that he has looked totally disinterested. The amount of times this year he loses the ball then doesn't bother tracking back (Arsenal game was the best example of this) whereas last year he would be getting stuck in. That combined with the fact he is always injured or suspended I would get him out the door as fast as we could. If only we had taken 25mill for him last year :p

Both of those are dependant on replacements coming in (never guaranteed with our owner) but in this situation you need players who want to play and will fight for the cause, not whinge and whine and want to suit themselves. That gets you relegated, like the last time we went down.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the boat-load of cash he's gonna be paid??

We have a wage structure unlike most clubs in the league. He will fit into that so whilst he may (and probably will) be getting more than he was on at Lille, we won't be breaking the bank for him.

5.5mill for a defender who was arguably the best right back at the last Euro's is a great deal.

Didn't Newcastle learn their lesson in buying French defenders with Boumsong??

There is a world of difference from our signings back then to the club now. Most notably we have a scouting network who actually look at the players and decide whether they are suitable than just buying on reputation.

Whilst you always take a risk signing a foreign player the two situations aren't really that similar.

Again, another worry is that Pardew is only making noise about getting Ashley to release the funds for a striker. When we desperately need a defender
