January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

He's rubbish, wants 200k a week and aside from being the player the media focused on, wasn't Inter's best player, and is currently Inter's worst player.

He has gone on record as saying he hates playing in midfield as its too much work, and then blames the manager when he's played as a striker "i'm not a striker, boohoo me" and he can't score for ****. He scored a few highlights worthy freekicks and goals, in an entire season and randomly got praised for it. He was poor in the 2010 world cup yet people pretend he was the best player. 2-3 tap ins, one half decent goal, created little to nothing, disappeared in the difficult games and got a clear own goal credited to him for no reason.

As someone who has watched Sneijder occasionally, I think he's a quality player. Being in a team you like and understand would help massively, his vision and passing ability are both excellent from what I've seen.

Statistics may paint a different picture of him, but you can't doubt his ability in my opinion.

I don't see how Sneijder would fit in at Arsenal, basically in their formation the only place you could play him would be in place of Cazorla i.e. a waste of money, in fact even if they switched formation it would be difficult to accomodate them both. His wage demands would also be too high.

Not saying I'd turn him away on a free transfer and sensible wages but there are other clubs where he'd fit in far better IMO (e.g. MU).

Edu Vargas is going to San Paolo on loan, so no Arsenal for him.

Also, whats the hate towards Sneijder. How many of you actually watch Serie A? He's a great player when played in position and he has showed it countless times. Just because he had a season plagued with injuries and a manager who doesn't play him in position, it doesn't mean he is bad.

Only one person is spreading the hate towards him. And he doesnt need to explain himself to you ;)

What we need is a bench of players to change up our play when things are going wrong. Sneijder could do that.

We need a plan B or plan C.

Nearly halfway through the month and not a sniff of a transfer. Some big games coming up.

I agree with needing players that can change the dynamics of a game from the bench, but I don't see Sneijder as that player. I do actually believe Fellaini would be a brilliant addition to arsenal.

Sneijder on the bench, get real :)

Arsenal already have a proven international on a big salary who can change things off the bench in Arshavin. Except he can't get on the bench for some reason.

I didnt think we would get him for the bench, more desperation from my point lol

Arshavin is a weird one, he seems to have just lost all motivation to play. I remember last year when he was playing and he was making a few rookie mistakes and the board came up for a change and he started walking off.

He wasnt the one being changed but that was his mentality. His behaviour is like he doesnt even enjoy playing at the moment. Says a lot when he can't get on the bench when we have so many average and injured players missing.

He should be our game changer player but his heart doesnt seem in it.

Unfortunately I see our signings as, Walcott, Diaby (Wait for the old saying, its like signing a new player! lol) and some random guy no one has ever heard of.

Hopefully I am wrong.

I've got a lot of love for Arshavin, you can doubt his motivation all you like but how would you feel if you were randomly dropped, then week in week out you see utter tripe like Gervinho picked ahead of you. Arshavin is absolutely quality, he can bring so much to the team if Wenger would only let him. Ambidextrous, good passer, great ball control and very creative on his day. The only thing I'd say negatively about him is he tends to take a bit longer than some players to get into a game, which is why it's pointless giving him 10-15 minutes every few weeks, or lately none at all.

Don't get me wrong I am not saying he is a bad player. Quite the opposite, I think he is a great player but his head is not in the game. Probably like you have said with him being dropped. But you can tell he is effected menatally by something.

There has got to be something more going on than we know. Wenger obviously doesnt know how to push his buttons to get him going.

Wenger has been making some questionable decisions for quite some time though when it comes to player selection. One that springs to mind recently was the excellent Chamakh hat trick in a cup match and he wasn't even on the bench for the following league game iirc.

Yeah he is beginning to run dry on his past successes. We still do have a pretty good young team with some experience but gone are the days when I actually believe we have a chance of winning any of the competitions we enter.

A bit of luck on injuries and a few fresh faces might change that though.

Coloccini has handed in a transfer request due to being homesick.

What is it with Argentinians not liking life in this country and abandoning their teams? There were rumours at the start of the season that he had gone awol. And now this. I was actually looking through pictures recently at the training ground and he wasn't in any of the photos...

Bad news for Newcastle

Largely speaking, the uk is a very unfriendly feeling place, its ruddy cold and I don't know how to explain it. The feel you get living in Spain and places in the area is just completely different to the feel in the UK, lots and lots and lots of south americans say they prefer living in the mediterranean cities compared to the UK, and lots of them end up unhappy here. Relatively speaking the only players who tend to stay here long term or players who come from the UK. South americans come for a while then go south to Spain/Italy/Turkey/greece/etc, or go back to South America.

Ultimately people born outside the UK don't seem to find a good reason given the choice to stay in the UK, it shouldn't be surprising to anyone frankly. We have a worse celeb culture than most places, expensive living and horrible weather. Very very few english players go and play abroad, and those that do tend to come back pretty damn quickly. South americans/southern europeans don't seem to adapt well to UK life nor stay long and people from the UK are the opposite.

on the other hand there are only 30 starting places (if you include a bit of rotation) with competitive teams in Spain, arguably less than that in Germany....after all very few players can be effective for 50-60 games every season, but with the right team ethic etc for "important" players top clubs should be able to offer 30-40 and work from there

Admittedly its impossible to know right now what (if anything ) UEFA will do, but its highly unlikely any club will be willing to gamble ~£120k+ a week for a bench warmer, so its swings and round abouts - some will "gamble" and go to the Spanish / German clubs anyway and hope they can dislodge the current starter (either way possibility of one of the players being unhappy/possibly wanting a move) or the player focuses on a different league

At the end of the day their career's are relatively short - the better players want to play and improve themselves every week, rather than just collect £££ for being on the bench and the occasional start.

Living expense is irrelevant given the money most are paid - but other than that its a compromise between going to Spain /Germany in a competitive /title chasing team and possibly spend more time on the bench (or at the very least have a tougher time dislodging that player in your position) or go to possibly more competitive league with worse weather but play more

The fact that he's rubbish, in his most injured season he scored basically the same in the league as his best treble season with Inter. In his treble year he scored 4 in 84 shots in the league, and 3 in 32 shots in the UCL... does that sound epic, or not even that good? Reason Sneijder didn't win the player of the year, Messi got 34 in 163 shots thats 1 in 21 vs 1 in 4.9. Scored 49 in all comps vs 9, and both effectively playing as a second striker/playmaker/attacking midfielder role.

His goals/assists per start isn't too bad, but he's averaged what, 18-19 starts a season in the league over the past 4-5 years, he's scored 4 and got 5-6 assists in each of his last 3 seasons while he hasn't played over 30 league games in basicaly 6 years.

200k a week for a guy who is ineffective, selfish and plays significantly less than most other top players, who his club is trying to get rid of and is perfectly happy to go to Turkey for big money rather than try hard in a top league says everything I need to know about him frankly.

Does he score loads to help the team, no, does he have a great assist rate, no, does he play a lot, no, does he work really hard, no, does he inspire or lead the team, no, does he help defensively, not in the slightest. What exactly makes him great?

We need a plan B or plan C.

You do know that if you sum up Sneijder it would be, guy who shoots a lot, doesn't score a lot and likes to play behind a striker passing and not defending at all.... in what way would he be a play B when he plays the same position, in the same was as Santi, but is less effective? Sneidjer isn't a battering ram, he isn't brilliant and running through the defence like Messi then scoring, he is a typical Cazorla style play, not remotely different. A plan B would be Chamakh, or some actual pacey wingers who can beat their man and whip in crosses, or you know, something different to what we have, not more of the same.

I completely agree. The North East is particularly worse than the rest of England as well. A very depressing place to be especially if your native home is South America...
