As I said above, the issue isn't the individual players but the balance of the midfield. And you're going to write off Lucas and Allen playing together in the future after a handful of games where 1 isn't fit after coming back from over a year out and the other needs a break?

Right now Henderson needs to be in the side to make up for the short-term issues with Lucas & Allen.

It's irrelevent that Lucas is coming back after injury and Allen is tired - they should still be signs of an understanding between them its not just game time but they should have been in training together etc for over 2 months (plus time before Lucas's injury), but there isnt.

Henderson's energy is desperately needed in there though, far too static without him.
 
Lucas not being fit and able to fulfill his role as he should and Allen being shot to pieces aren't relevant?

Given the way Lucas was wrote off in the past and even Henderson (who now most fans are saying should be in the side), I think it's a bit hasty to start writing Allen & Lucas off as a partnership when they've barely played together and in the games that they have, neither is close to being at their best.
 
Gerrard only performed in the second half because we stopped pressing him. Even then on the rare occasions we got someone near him he would usually get caught on the ball. He more or less hovered on the halfway line and sprayed passes to each wing that Lucas could have made with ease.

He's ending up like Scholes, looks decent under no pressure but it's like being a man down when you're under the cosh.
 
That's like saying Utd only performed in the first half because we were too tentative. It's easy to say but impossible to prove.

While Lucas can knock the ball about very well, he's not got the range of passing Gerrard has nor the ability to open sides up with one pass as frequently as Gerrard can. For all the criticism he's got this season, he's got more assists that anybody in the league and still chipping in with the odd goal despite playing in a deeper position.

He's still got all the ability in the world - his issue has always been finding the right position to get the best out of him.
 
Surely it's pretty objective just to look at the space afforded to Gerrard in each half? He found a lot more room after half time, perhaps because Lucas came off allowing him to drop deeper while Sturridge pinned our defence back a bit more. He was OK in that role but he wasn't exactly pulling up trees.
 
I think you're being generous by not attributing that to him since about 2006.

I'd say he's much worse than that now.

Whoever he signs for though is going to have to be paying upwards of £500k oer week I would have thought. Wonder how that would sit with fair play money...
 
Once Ronaldo starts losing his pace the impact he has on games will drop and I get the impression he'll lose interest fast once he's no longer considered to be one of the worlds best players. Retirement by the age of 33 would be my guess then on to gay porn.

That Norwegian cb who was meant to be joining Everton, Fulham and Utd is supposed to be having a medical ahead of a move to Liverpool tomorrow.
