Jeez - credit card companies / banks really want me in debt!

But I am not getting an overdraft because I am a dirty foreigner.
Being a university graduate rather implies a good general level of education and general knowledge. Yet you don't know how credit cards work. Amazing :)

HSBC recently approved increasing my credit limit to £10k. Now I'm sure I have a good credit rating since I always pay everything off in full at the end of each month. However I do not have a job and they asked me to confirm this when I phoned them. It seems a bit irresposible to me to be giving that sort of credit to someone with no job  Not that I'm complaining :)

 wouldnt like to pay that type of credit card bill with no job

No time limit, just have to pay the minimum payment per month. Wouldn't advise it tho, because it'll just be there bugging you !

But they can call the debt in at any if they so choose, normally they wouldn't unless you were missing payments or something similar.

Simply because debt is a trend here doesn't mean everyone has to know how credit cards work, I am actually glad I didn't get involved with them untill now :)

My credit card limit is only £600, which I'm a little suprised at given:

-I have a current account with the same bank, which has an overdraft limit 2.5x the size (most people I've spoken to seem to have smaller ODLs than CCLs)
-I have a mortgage for which the repayments have always been met, so presumably my credit rating can't be THAT bad.

I suppose as I didn't use the card for a couple of years maybe I've not built up enough history but I am a little suprised they've not tried to up it again as they have with my OD.

The idea is to make you pay them money every month for life, so forever in debt! The level of CC offers that come through the post..

My limit did stand about 12k, years ago I asked for it to be raised from 500-1000 to pay for a holiday. Each month i pay my cc bills in full and over the years they upped it every now and them I called them a few years back and told them to drop it to £3k. If my card ever got nicked i would have a heat attack if i recieved a bill for 10k.

I didnt use a Barclaycard for about 4 years with a ZERO balance.

They sent me a letter a few months ago telling me they had closed my account - LOL
