I think the fact that Carr mocked the scheme originally has lead to all of this, im sure if he had never made that gag that the pressure on him atm wouldnt nearly be half as bad.

If there is a legal way to pay less tax then people will do it, regardless of morality. I blame the system.
I don't have a problem in taking stockhausen at his word, that he wouldn't get involved in elaborate tax avoidance. Some people have principles.
Tax avoidance is morally wrong, as is piracy, again I don't have a problem with the OP's position.

So what if the rich are obliged to pay more tax, they can always vote Tory if they don't like it, again it is a moral principle that the more able take care of the less able - the unfair and corrupt implemention of this is the problem, not the principle.
Just a footnote, the richest people in this country are descended from the Normans who became rich by slaughtering a lot of peasants, they have no high ground here.
I agree with this. He's only one of at least a thousand people who did this. Even if its "morally bankrupt" as the media is claiming, theres no reason he should be made the poster child for Financial Corruption.
And there ARE worse things a person could do than fiddle their taxes a bit. If you must sharpen your pitchforks, aim them at the murderers, child molesters and rapists in society. Their the ones that deserve it.

Nothing wrong with tax minimisation, not to be confused with tax avoidance.
Most people with a least an ounce of sense will try to reduce their tax liability, just because people have found a cleverer way of doing it doesn't make it wrong. Jimmy Carr should have just stuck two fingers up and pointed out to the press/government that at least what he's doing is legal, unlike expense fiddling.

Its legal and the government were/are and have always been aware such things were in place (and undoubtedly use such schemes themselves) so why all the hate for Carr. He would have employed people to see to his taxes to ensure he doesn't pay too much. He's a comedian not an accountant.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I think everyone (individuals and companies) should pay the tax they are liable for, without using machiavellian schemes to avoid it. As it is, those with access to fancy accountants and tax experts paying less than they are meant to pay mean the rest of us have to make up the difference.
Maybe I'm unusual in believing in 'society' and responsibility towards the greater community, while so many others just think of what they can get out of it for themselves and stuff everyone else.

If it's morally wrong then it should be illegal. It's not illegal. That doesn't make it morally right but self-employed people need to do all they can to keep their earnings and support themselves and their families, especially during a recession.
Carr did exactly the "right" thing by himself and his family, that is, until he decided to fold and admit some kind of guilt, in my opinion.
