Joanna Lumley's Tran-Siberian Adventure

Yes I did, admittedly only because my mum had it on lol. I liked it though. China certainly seems a money obsessed nation. Seemed worse than here. Also I couldnt believe that the building of the great wall of china caused more deaths than world war 1 and 2 combined. Not the type of fact karl pilkington was pulling out when he was there lol.

And it was originally longer than the distance from London to New York and back! Mental.

Fairly interesting for some Sunday evening fluff. :p

Yes, I saw it. Very good indeed. It wasn't that the building of the great wall resulted in more deaths than WW1 and 2 combined, it was the amount of people that died when Mongolia invaded China.

Ahhhhhh I did think it was pretty mental that statistic. Now it makes much more sense. To be honest I know very little of the mongolians.

Is not even a great wall

The Mongol Empire at its peak was the biggest contiguous land empire ever (if relatively short-lived). They were steamrollering over eastern Europe when the Mongol commander Batu Khan received news that the emperor Ogedei had died unexpectedly, so he broke off the intended assault on Western Europe as he wanted to return east with his armies to contend for the throne.

The death of Ogedei was one of those pivotal points in history; if he'd lived just a bit longer, the world today would likely look very different. Maybe the Industrial Revolution would never have happened, or maybe we'd be building starships...
