Right, on Friday I went for an interview for a job at a factory. The interview seemed to go fairly well and at the end I was asked if I had any questions.

I asked a few questions and then informed him I had put in applications for jobs elsewhere and was awaiting a reply off them.

I then got a phone call an hour later asking if I could start Monday. I then said that I was still waiting for a reply from other employers regarding my application forms/CV's. She then asked me if I was willing to start Monday or whether I would wait, so I said I'll wait.

The reason being I'm very keen to get a job as Commercial Lines Admin at an insurers as it would to professional qualifications.

I'm wondering how would you have worded it to the factory employer? Would you have told them? Should I have started the job and then possibly quit a week later?

Advice welcome, many thanks.

I dont think it's ever wise to let any interviewer know youre looking for jobs elsewhere - however under certain circumstances, it may be unavoidable.

In your situation, I think shoulda simply said youre not available to start until a certain date (which by then you'd know whether you want the job or not), and you can simply decline the job later :)

Also, no matter what your qualification level, never ever tell them that you are required to attend hospital quite regularly due to your disability.

This is the reason I can't get a job at the moment and in some bizarre 'Catch 22' way you can apparently get fired down the line if you fail to inform them of this, even though telling them in the first place negates you getting the job! :(
