Job offer of my dreams, or is it?

after read the OP, first thing in my mind, the reason they got rid of him cos he demanded a pay rise.

i was in similar situation long time ago. i used work for a company who promised a pay rise every year. worked there for 3 years and never got pay rise and at the end i just left.

i wouldnt move 150 miles for low wage job especially if you're in relationship.

your choice :)

If you hadn't noticed he's not a teenager with no experience, he has a lot of experience and the manager is clearly just looking for slave labour.

And if you hadn't noticed he is still going in as an apprentice. The job description doesn't change just because you've got a bit more experience than the other candidates.

i really dont thing the guy offering the job will care one bit that you moved 150miles maybe lost a girlfriend and will hold that over you when more money is talked about
he`s going to think if he came here for the little he`s getting now he`s not going to leave if i dont pay him more

Pay scales with the quality of work produced, doesn't matter what the job title is. You get paid much better stacking shelves as Tesco for gods sake.

Offers like that only comes once in a lifetime. Go for it. You can always see your girlfriend during weekends to start with, after few months you can start thinking of some more permanent solution.

EDIT: But as other have advised, maker sure you are not on minimum wage after 3 months but on some reasonable salary. Some employers really are greedy and will not give you any pay rise.

OP: I think you're more focused on the "benefits" of the job than the job itself (track days, access to the equipment needed to your own stuff); you're letting the lure of shiny new things cloud your judgement a little IMO.

I'd definitely push for a bit more money to relocate, even if it were a job that I really wanted to do. If they approached you, then surely they know what you can do? Can you get any testimonials from customers/clients on paper as ammunition?

Minimum wage will be a bit of a struggle, even on a 40 hour week. You need to sit down, and go through what your weekly or monthly wage will be against rent and other outgoings to see what you'll be left with. Remember that you need to include NI and Tax in your calculations, as well as the obvious rent, utility bills, food shopping, the odd night out, travel home in an emergency etc..

Good luck if you do go for it :)

EDIT: Not sure if you would be able to get help with rent in the form of any benefits, but I have no clue if this would be an avenue you'd either want to pursue or be entitled to...

I'm not sure of the OP's actual experience and skill (I am aware of his RX7 build) but I've got my doubts that they are up to the level where the employer would be able to "exploit" him any more than anyone else.

By the way, Not every apprentice in the motor trade is fresh out of secondary school. Actually most of the apprentices I know have done additional work in the motor trade before being taken on as an apprentice at their current dealer, but we all start at the same place - The bottom.
