Hi Guys,

In the past posts regarding the Army was well informed by OCUK members and I have 2 question:

If I was to join the army will I be a Soldier or will I be bumped up the ranks as I have a Degree in IT and tons of certifications.

& if I get bumped up what rank will I be?

Thanks

OMG post fails.

No offence, but I think we can rule you out being an Officer based on that post.

Anyway, IF you JOINED as an Officer, you'd go through Sandhurst etc. and end up 2nd LT > LT etc...

However, private > NCO > Officer takes absolute years.

it doesn't and to be honest I have no reason to join... Just want to know what rank I would be if I did join

lol, so you have no reason apart from you just want to know :p, is it that hard to go to army mod site, waste of a thread. especialy when your not even joining.

Why would anyone think they get "bumped up the ranks" even with a Degree and "loadza certificates".

You join as either an officer or as a Soldier.

yeah I was watching Warship on five and saw this guy trying for GCSE maths to get a higher rank and he already looked/was important.

So I thought what rank I would get if I joined, although he had 12 years experience

Isn't Warship about the Navy?

I havent watched it mind.

Army, Royal Navy and RAF are probably one of the few employers where you have to start at the bottom of your stream. There are a couple of exceptions eg qualified doctors start as Lt, but 95% start at the bottom and work up, regardless of age, experience etc.

I would be a excellent IT engineer but a lousy private, for one I would be unable to wake up for training coz I was up all night surfing

Well I can't remember what exactly that was about, but you can join as a Private and become an NCO later on, providing you've got the qualifications. Having a degree may allow you to rise up the ranks a lot quicker than other soldiers, but you will still start right at the bottom. Most people that have higher qualifications though will join as an Officer.

As you have a degree, you could probably become an officer in the field of IT, so after training where you will be an Officer Cadet, you will become a Second Lieutenant.
