I'm further down the map from you, but I hop on the m3 and drive to Richmond. And tube in from there, parking costs are not too bad. If you have the parking app, you can top up your parking, if you think you will be late back. :)
 
Chippenham to Paddington, Paddington to Kings Cross (circle line, Hammersmith & City Line or Metropolitan line), Kings Cross to Old Street (Northern Line. Bugger all traffic and you'll get there easily on time.

I used to go from Reading to Old Street daily, it's a simple journey and the single tube change is trivial.

Much as I'd love a nice lazy ride in, the tickets are coming up as 120 quid. Probably use less then 40 in diesel, and iirc the tube tickets were 20-30 quid, so quite a saving
 
We did the Moorfields trek every month or so for two years, first thing I'll say is don't drive in, the traffic will kill you.

Tube to Old Street, the second you walk out the tube barriers you'll see a prominent green line painted on the floor. Follow it, it'll take you right to the front door.

Just use a contactless credit card for the tube, you won't get near 20 quid let alone 30 even for both of you, both ways.
 
Worked in Worship street, between Finsbury Sq and Old Street. I don't recommend driving. Even when it's empty of traffic(when i lived in London) it used to take ages getting through the city as traffic lights are always on red. During normal days, traffic is horrendous. i used to only drive in on Bank holidays. I'd park either Finsbury Square or City of London Corp Car Park on London Wall

Now I live Camberley, I go to Farnborough if need to go in
Farnborough to London Waterloo is 37min, take drain to bank, then either get on the bus at Princess street(20m from outside the tube exit) and it'll take you all the way up to the hospital(no 76 or 243)..bus more pleasant than the tube..or get the tube to old street and walk the remainder...
All I know driving in, it could take over an hour from Clapham to even get to London Bridge...horrendous

Parkopedia to find free/pay for parking nearby - Should be fine. but the ULEZ/congestion and then parking combined means quite a bit of cost if you have to pay those and a train probably would end up much cheaper. I was there last Saturday and spent £27 on parking, including fuel and a further £17 congestion zone charge for the day I could have trained it there for £45 odd return!

We have to regularly pop in to the Royal National Orthopaedic Clinic (Bolsover Street), We always ask for an 11:00AM appointment, that makes life easy, cheap train fare if wanting to go that route, or if driving, the roads have calmed down a bit..

The most relaxing was taking a train in (1st Class as it's cheaper that time of day) and getting a Taxi.. cost a fair bit more, but was very enjoyable..

Tried to get a later appt. but the specialist only runs a morning clinic - it's an NHS referral, so I don't mind leaving at postman hours :D
 
Surely you'd struggle to drive after your appointment anyway? I had surgery in January and every appointment involved drops and things that messed with your vision and dilated your pupils etc., and you weren't allowed to drive

Yeah. It's very easy. I was coming in from west London and hated the 9am appointments but I kept my mouth shut when they reminded me that people come in from all over the country :p If it's helpful at all I used to go super-early on the Piccadilly line, in time to have a second breakfast and coffee at Kings Cross (and use the facilities as they're better than Moorfields). And you're only two stops away and a short walk the other end, so you can pretty much relax once you get to Kings Cross no matter the time of day. Also if it's helpful there's an Itsu and Sainsbury's right opposite Moorfields itself for food, and a pizza place on the way, nice coffee shop right out of Old Street station. There's loads round there to be honest, although seen as most appointment involve a lot of waiting around it's probably easier to take a flask of tea and sandwiches like I did :D Good luck, eye stuff certainly ain't fun...
 
If you're coming from Wiltshire, the extra half an hour (at the very least, you'll be going round the M25!) to get to Edgware rather than Hounslow is definitely not worth shortening/simplifying the tube journey. I think drive to Swindon/Reading/Slough (pick one based on petrol cost vs train cost), train to paddington then tube from there. Or Hounslow remains a good shout, Picadilly line to Kings X and you're basically there.

Problem is that the Piccadilly is a right ***no, this is not allowed*** at peak times. Full of suitcases and tourists, it's hideous. And if it goes wrong you've not got much other option from Hounslow. Get into Paddington and at the very least you could do a slightly random route on other lines if the Circle is messed up, or even get a cab if it becomes desperate. It might end up <£100 :p

Might be cheaper and easier to just buy a flat in Islington and walk from there I reckon.
 
Westfield - £6 parking for the day I believe and not to difficult off the M4 > Woodlane station > Kings Cross then change for Northern line > Old street then follow the line on the ground to the hospital. Oh and whilst walking to the hospital stop and gawp at the Montcalm building..

Fairly painless that route
