Hi, question about RAW + jpeg on a Canon eos 500D.

I tried RAW + JPEG for the first time yesterday (NEC Bike show), I took over 300 pictures. I copied the pictures using Windows 64 (normal windows device software) to my computer by plugging in the USB cable. When I looked at the folder for every one picture taken there was 2 jpeg's.

I then viewed the card folder, and again it showed two jpegs for every image taken. They were saved like this - first image IMG_5579(1).jpg , second image IMG_5579.jpg.

Have I done something wrong, or is there an issue with camera firmware?

Afterwards I did a test shot in RAW only, and this appeared on the card fine.

Thanks
Jason

Sounds like you accidentally copied it twice to the PC. Windows auto sticks in the (1), (2) etc to say overwriting the original file.

you need to use canon software to get the RAW files off the camera. At least you do on my 400d.

Same on my D90. With my D70 I could browse to the foilder. With my D90 the RAW files have to be transferred with the Nikon software.

If you browse the card you should have files showing as .jpg and an equivalent .cr2 file which is the RAW file (they will have the same file name just a different extension). That's certainly how they are captured on my 30D and NO you do not need the Canon specific software, mine import fine using Picassa or Lightroom 1.1
