Just a boring old Mondeo

For a few months now, I have been looking to get a Mondeo Titanium X with the 2.5L engine. The main reason for this choice was because of how cheap they can be bought and because for the past few years, I had been driving my dad's MK3 1.8L Zetec and I loved it so it was only fitting that the replacement be another Mondeo. I wanted something more upmarket and this seemed to fit the bill.

The main problem was actually finding one that was in good condition. The cheaper ones (£5000-£7000) lacked a Sat Nav, which in my opinion transforms the interior, and the more expensive ones were just too expensive for what they offered. One I saw near Slough was near over £8500 and didn't have much in the form of extras, and another I saw in Reading had a tear in the leather upholstery. Meanwhile during my search, I stumbled on a Titanium X Sport which seemed to have everything I wanted but the only problem was that it was 210 miles away. Eventually, after the car had been on the market for three weeks, I decided to go see it (after many phone calls to the dealer to make sure the car was in good shape and had FFSH).

When I finally saw it in the flesh, it put the biggest smile on my face and a few checks later, I bought the car for £8990. I realise it's only a Mondeo but to me, it just seems perfect for what I need it for.

Bar a couple of niggles that have now been sorted by Ford, the car is excellent. In terms of extra options, apart from TVs at the back, I can't think of anything it doesn't have.

So here it is, my first car:

Special thanks to my brother DB_SamX who helped clean it and take the pictures. The sun was out and wasn't helping...

That is lovely. I have had a few mk4 Mondeos as hire cars (sadly all with ****** diesel engines) and they never fail to impress me. I'd like to try a 2.5T to see what they are like. It's a shame they don't make them with that engine any more though meaning there won't be a constant flow of them onto the second hand market :(

Doh! Regarding the front grille, I have no idea why its like that and no one else seemed to know either. There's nothing behind it to indicate why the holes had to be blocked.

It's got 68k miles on it which I can only imagine were motorway miles.

Am I right in thinking that the Titanium X models are all black?

You can get them in hypnotic silver as well. Coincedently, there was another one in silver that appeared on Autotrader just after I had bought this one. It was slightly cheaper with less miles but was on a 08 plate instead. And it didn't have a sunroof.

Based on howmanyleft.com, there's only around 100 TXS with the 2.5T engine .

Wow that interior looks a million times better than the rubbish spec weird silver plastic we have in the pool cars at work. I hated the MK4 Mondeo after i drove one to Birmingham and back after spending a lot of time in my mates Ghia X MK3. But i'm sure i could get on with that one just fine!
