Hi

Again as Ive stated before on other specs, I personally prefer the Corsair memory over the Geil stuff, IMO its worth the few extra £

Mike

The ram was my one concern and I expected sumthing to be posted about it !!

Ideally the £170 for the giel ram fits perfectly into my budget, dont think i could jump to £200 wich is the next price up after £170.

I have noticed that there are more options than the giel for £170 though. Iv listed these below.

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB)

G.Skill 2GB DDR2 PK PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK)

So if not the geil ram, wich of the above 2gb ram kits should i go for ??

Thanks

as for the 2 tubes of AS5, i have two older PCs that im going to give the Arctic silver treatment ! ;)

any answers to the above post ??

you'll only need 1 tube of AS for about 10 PC's!

and go from whatever ram you are considering to the Crucial 10th 2gb kit. just read the memory forum to see why!

I too will be running the Asus P5B (-E Plus, variant) board, only using the E6600.

Would there be much difference between the 2 Corsair modules:

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5, 5-5-5-12 TwinX (2x1GB) £176.24

and

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4, 4-4-4-12 TwinX (2x1GB) £193.86

There is a £17 price difference between the 2, but the modules with faster timings also require higher voltages (2.1vdimm as opposed to 1.9vdimm). Is it worth paying the extra £17?

If they are both warrantied to the same max voltage they are probably the same DIMM's with different SPD timings programmed. ALthough personally i would go for (b) if you're overclocking, just incase they are different.

Hmm im still a bit confused about this memory, the only other thing i am concidering is the OcUK 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit.

This would give me a guaranteed overclock too 2.8ghz which to be honest is quite a big overclock from standard !

how much higher could i go with this ram ?

If not then i think im just going to chance it with the geil kit as even though i have heard of giel ram going wrong, i have also heard plenty of people praising giel ram !

i just cant stretch to £200 fot the ram (170 was bad enough  ) and as i will prob only be going to 2.8ghz, posibly experiment with 3ghz, then i cant justify spending the extra money !

rite one last chance to choose me a ram between the Geil, Corsair, OCZ, and G.skill all at about £170. ?

quuite liking the idea of G.Skill, any good ?

anyone ?

sunama, was looking at that corsair ram but noticed both the OCZ and G.Skill are cas 4-4-4-12/15 rather than the corsair's 5-5-5-12 would this Cas latency difference be a good reason to go with the G.skill over the corsair ??

Anyone using G.skill ?

Need to sort this soon, want to order in the next hour or so !!

actually, just found this posted on another thread...

Hi there

The GeIL 2GB and 1GB PC2-6400 CAS 4-4-4-12 Kits are your best bet now. They can run at PC8500+ speeds at CAS 4-4-4-12 with ease and I've personally had a pair upto 1150MHz stable at CAS 4-4-4-12. Whats even more impressive is one of these 2GB Kits will only cost you £110+VAT!

Nothing can beat these kits when it comes to value for money and you will also find it hard to buy a better overclocking kit for more money as well, these really are the dogs danglies.

The code you want to be buying is MY-058-GL !!!!

So after all this, im going to go with the Geil and take my chances. If i get a dodgey batch and it as to be RMAd then so be it but if i get a good batch id be much happier choosing the giel over anything else !

So, here i go, going to order the above spec.... wish me luck !

Thanks ppl !

Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK) £59.99

£21.90

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - OEM
£93.99

HIS ATI Radeon X1950 Pro ICEQ 3 TURBO SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (H195PRQT512DD-R)
£129.99

Akasa AK-178-BL 12" Cold Cathode - Blue
£7.00

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC)
£147.99

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)
£13.99

2x OcUK Case Badges
£1.18

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM £56.99

And the motherboard is an ASUS P5B Deluxe WiFi from another site due to OcUK not stocking the WiFi model. ~£130

Im very relieved the stress of trying to choose the "best" components is over an now just look forward to building the thing !! YEY
