Just bought the MS wheel... did I do the right thing?

I bought it for £75 but I don't really know that much about it.

How's the force feedback?
Does it have much "play" (looseness) with it and does it develop over time?
What's the quality like?
Worth £75?
how big is the clamp?

Looking forward to using it on:

PGR3
PGR4
DiRT
Forza2
Burnout

got one yesterday & will have to take it back, its offset by about 20 degrees clockwise which means holding the wheel straight means you steer to the left :(
It feels a bit plasticy but the force feedback is good (you can feel the steering go light for example).

Just remember to plug it into the mains if you want force feedback effects ;)

Kreeeee, I'm pretty sure you'll find it's a worthy purchase. For something like PGR3 it may lead you to wonder just why you spent the money - but that is the game, not the wheel. Like I said elsewhere, it's like sitting in a good restaurant and picking up the correct cutlery to tuck into a McDonalds cheeseburger.

From what I've used of mine I would say it's not as good as my MOMO on the PC, but is very good in its own right. Adds a lot to a game like Forza2.

a lot of them have had this problem, its down to quality control in the factory, you can adjust it yourself by unscrewing the thing and then just moving the wheel around on the next notch. (instructions on the net).
Worth taking it back for a replacement though, but if you get another like that may be worth adjusting it. Some of the other defects have been loose wheels which move up/down and from side to side, and others that click loudly when turning right or left.
Its a shame that the quality control is shocking on these. I had 2 before I got one i could live with.
In the end though they are well worth the money, adds a whole new dimension to gaming on the 360 and it works perfectly with forza 2

sadly, it's not compatible with burnout (not the current one anyway). other than that, excellent bit of kit.

Have to agree, the build quality is very good and the feedback from the wheel in Forza 2 is excellent. The real problem is finding a good place to clamp it to in your living room as sitting it on your lap is not perfect when plugged in.

Don't worry mate its a good wheel and much more fun than a pad. I bought one for my wife for 14 February and she finds it great. I use it more than her though :D
Force Feedback is the best when the wheel is attached to something steady, but even on your lap it decent enough.
The clamp is very well made and allows you to attach it to quite a thick table.
The one we have has no looseness or other problems, the quality is superb and its well worth its money.

I would really like to get one of these for Forza 2, but feel that sitting on the sofa with it just won't work well enough. I had a play on my mates one the other day, who has it clamped to his desk and I think that is the only way it could be used, securely fitted to something.

Comparing it to the Logitech wheel I used to own for playing GTR on the PC, I found it was no where near as enjoyable. The Logitech one with GTR was excellent. You really had to work the wheel in fast turns and could really feel proper resistance - the force feedback felt 5 times stronger than the MS one.

just back with my replacement, this one doesn't click like the other one but it has an anti clockwise offset this time..

have to say, crap quality from MS yet again :(

will attack it with the tools this afternoon

Gonna feel odd riding on bikes though :p.

However, it will be great in Forza 2, Project Gotham Racing 4 and any other racers coming out.

I have always found Microsoft to have the highest quality peripherals, everything I have ever used has been solid and well built apart from the wired headset.

have been reading a bit on these wheels, seems to be lots of problems with them, most common being the off centre issue, should be easy enough to sort out, hopefully..

Same here, you pay a premium for MS stuff but I think its very worth it, the build quality is top notch.

I would buy one if it wasnt so expensive.. maybe £50~

Yeah I know what you mean, I probably wouldn't have bought one if it couldn't be used with the PC aswell as 360. But I have to say its built to a very high standard.

Just fixed mine, straight forward enough, lined up the gearing properly & now its perfectly centred.
Word of warning for anyone who wants to have a go, you need a torx 10 security bit to remove the lap mount, this can also be used for all the other screws (normal torx 10).

Thats the main reason I won't be getting one unfortunately. I play on a computer chair but my 360 is only on a Hi-Fi stand with a 19" TFT on the top shelf. Nowhere to put the damn thing.

My old PC wheel came with a proper lap attachment thingy but that didn't really do much good either. It worked but felt awkward and the wheel wasn't steady, especially with heavy force feedback.
