Ive just got caught by a very sneekly placed mobile speed camera going at about 40-50 in a 30 zone :( (not exactly sure of the exact speed because i was just accerating for fun, not continously driving at a high speed.

Im with elephant.co.uk, so any ideas how much my insurance will go up by (currently £750), and also how long will the points stay on my licence?

If its your first 3 points, your insurance should not be affected at all. If it is, it will only be a slight increase.

In addition, you'll receive a letter asking you to stump up £60 and send your licence of for the introduction of your first 3 points!

CONGRATULATIONS ! :D

Points will remain on your licence (physically) for 3 years, and can be removed after 4, although they must be declared for insurance purposes for 5 apparently!

I wouldent worry about it till you get the NIP, you have 14 days to sweat over it.

I had 80 on a dual carriageway 3 weeks ago and there was a speed camera van just on a bridge, bugger well got me but it was a true mistake and has now passed his time limit to issue NIP so can whistle for it if they try.

accelerating for fun.. .. .. you deserve it, mabe you will learn to leave the accelerating for fun in a safe place without accelerating faster than the speed limit for that road.

Yep my first set of point after 3 years of driving :(

So I will be 25 before all traces of my points have gone!! thats ridiculous

I see what you are saying, but it was a pretty empty two carriage road, in a non-residential area... The camera was there because it is easy to speed, and so easy money for them.

And doing 40-50 in a 30 zone isnt ridiculous. ''accelerating for fun'' Hmmmm Sounds like it was only a matter of time. Hopefully they will be your last.

45 - 50 in a 30, thats child killer territory tbh :p

Don't forget all the kittens that will be drowned aswell. :p

Don't worry mate, most people that have cars in this country have a good old SP30 to go with em. The amount of cameras now it's amazing there are any people without tbh.

Oh, I'm sick of people like this. (directed to a few posters, not all)

Mr goody two shoes. You don't know what the conditions were like. You can't possibly know what type of road 50/50 was driving on. There's a dual carriageway around here which is a 50 limit. I'll happily do 70-80 down it slowing for the speed cameras along the way.

Why do I speed so much along there? Because it's seperate from any slower moving traffic, no school kids can run out into the road and lastly, it's a long straight road... so you can see any hazards before you get to them. Should I be locked up and the key thrown away?

Yup:p

Tbh i have to agree with you, I have done exactly what 50/50 has done without getting caught, but i only do it when its a straight road where i can see what could happen and when there is hardly on the road (usually late) As long as your not careless why not? :p

Mmm to be fair from his opening post he didn't state that it was a dual-carriageway etc So they didn't know, plus the way he describes it doesn't help "accelerating for fun in a 30zone". :/

Different people have different views on speeding, just accept it. And anyway that seems like a REALLY random post you did, no-one suggested anything of the sort! :p

Fair point TripleT.

But 'accelerating for fun in a 30zone' isn't exactly the end of the world :)

Hell, Friday and Saturday I was close to the limiter in 2nd gear in 30 zones. Although, I'm not proud of it looking back, but nobody got hurt and I didn't endanger anyone.

Well it isn't the smartest thing to do. I mean the road outside my house is a 30zone, it has a primary school on it, a park and row of shops. If I accelerated to 40-50mph for fun on it would you say the same?

My point - From the OP no-one knew the road, so you can forgive Cassius Clarke (I'm guessing that's who you were reffering to in your post as I can't see any other negative comments) for questioning him.

And williamw11 :)

But I won't go into it anymore. I've said my point and don't want to fall out with anyone over it. :)

Oh, I'll argee about speeding past a school. Yeah, I'd definitely have something to say about that, but Cassius should have at least found out more information before jumping on his high horse.
