Just finished Babylon 5 Series 1-5... my life now feels empty. *POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

B5 was absolutely superb. As others have said the only sci-fi show close enough in quality is BSG. I suspect this is due to the fact that they are both character pieces and not just effects shows.

Eh, I tried to watch this one. Something about some old guy telling a story to some kids. It just didnt seem that good so i watched ds9 instead

Yeap BSG still amazing, and so is B5 am glad more lost tales and possible series/films are possible too, seems now adays scifi shows are only really good for the small screen though.

Mind u am sure a film called Heros would own the box office ratings about now ;)

so? It was good off the bat. I'm sure b5 is great but some people talking to some guy telling a story is hardly orginial either

To be fair, that's a prequel made sometime around the 3rd or 4th season. It assumes you already know the characters.

That film is not meant to be seen first, despite the title. Its meant to be watched almost at the end.

I caught B5 when it was first on tv also - loved all series upto4 but for one reason and another never saw much more, seen most of the movies but didnt think the "feel" of them where quite right somehow

Am very tempted to get boxset of dvd's if I see it anywhere (because it was so cheaply done, I dont think it would ever come out that great on hidef if it was ever released....which unfortunately is unlikely so Ive read elsewhere)

  1. Watch the B5 movie "The Gathering".
  2. Season 1
  3. Season 2
  4. Season 3
  5. Watch Season 4 up to episode "The illusion of truth"
  6. Watch the B5 movie "Thirdspace"
  7. Season 4: continue with episodes 9-22
  8. Watch Season 5 up to episode "Objects at Rest"
  9. Watch the B5 movie "River of Souls"
  10. Watch the B5 movie "In the Beginning". This is a prelude set 10 years before Babylon 5. Against the logic of the title, I would strongly recommend seeing it at this stage. Should one see it before Season 1, much of the suspense in the main series would be ruined.
  11. Watch the B5 movie "A Call to Arms". This movie lays the groundwork for the spin-off TV series "Crusade".
  12. Season 5: watch final episode "Sleeping in light"
  13. Watch Crusade Series

Working my way through this now so thought I'd ask is there any reason you went with that particular order?

IIRC the B5 movies were set during the series, so from a continuity point of view that's the sensible place to watch them :)
Likewise watching the "in the beginning" movie at that point means you're not getting spoilers for plot events late in the run, right at the beginning.

Loved Babylon 5 ... watched it when it was on originally, (and sadly at the time could recite the entire plot up to the point the series was at), had it on VHS and then had it, and still have it, on DVD.

Good fun series with a nice mixture of action, drama and humour.

Absolutely loved B5, so much so that when they aired the final episode on channel 4 many moons ago I went out, and over the course of a year, bought every single VHS of all 5 seasons and movies, considering there were 2-3 episodes to a VHS there were about 50 of them in the end.

Id never seen a sci-fi before that was set more like a soap in space when compared to Star Trek where every episode was different and usually bore no relation to the previous one. You really got to know every side of the characters and it was funny as well, but not in a cheesy sci-fi way but in a well written sit-com way.

Awesome show, just a shame that Crusade was so poor in relation, but I find spin-offs generally are.

Yeah no wonder it got canned half way through the season, and not even Sheriff Lucas Buck as Captain could save it. The worse thing about it was the technomage Galen, his "jokes" were proper cringe-worthy.

It was all set up with a brilliant back story of finding a solution to the Shadow weapon around earth but somehow it never lived up to the hype.
