Hi,

I just picked up a 400D, I have been umming and arrrrring over doing DSLR for sometime. I have been using a C8080WZ up until now and have been very happy with it, however I like what DSLR has to offer so when I saw a mint conditon 400D up for £360 I decided to take the plunge.

Arrived today, not given it a spin yet (not great weather for it) Opened the box and got a couple of bonuses, there are 2 extra batteries, and when I went to put my CF card in I found a Sandisk Extreme III 1GB card already in there, which I wasn't expecting.

All in all a bargain I think.

What would people recommend as a general purpose lens, I take my camera with me on a lot of city breaks, so I take a lot of landscape and architecture photos. This is my first venture into needing additional lenses, so any help is much appricated.

The types of photo I take can be seen here:

I know they are mostly snapshots rather than conforming to photographic rules, or artistic shots etc, I enjoy taking photos the represent the real world as closely as possible, as the eye sees it if you like, I am not fond of making photos artifical in colour etc. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that and I do it various reasons occasionally but on the whole I like natrual photos. :)

How about the Sigma 17-70?

Just got mine on Saturday and so far so good very pleased with it. (I also have a 400D)

The kit lens will probably do you for starters though (assuming you have it!)

You got a nice deal there!

My Sigma 10-20 came yesterday and it's excellent. Haven't been out with it yet so dunno if it will be too wide for walk about but I intend to use it to caputre the cities of Singapore, Hong Kong and Brisbane in the summer.

That one sounds too wide for what I am after. I would like some telephoto capability.

What do people think of the Tamron AF28-200mm Aspherical? This sounds like a good range, the same as the last camera I was using.

I have no idea if tamron are even any good!

Sounds like it's light as well which is a bonus.
