Just got a court summon for TV licence

I believe we only had one letter before he turned up, we live on a well known student street and they knocked on a few doors that we could see. Don't quite understand you Ahleckz? "What do you do when the Sheriff gives you a £1000 fine?"

You have to tell them beforehand if you don't believe you need a TV license anyway I don't believe than no one in you house will watch TV even once in the next year

you dont have to tell them anything.
you dont have to let them in.
you dont have to talk to them

£1000 is the maximum fine (level 3).

No. That's not correct. Read your own quote.

What's not correct? A receiver was installed, and it was under the possession of those living in the flat. He's clearly contravened the Act.

Sorry, I haven't spent time learning about the law and TV licence in my 19 years existence, as most students haven't I suspect...

You don't need legal training to know that you don't let people walk into your property.

We opened the door and he just walked in.

This is soooo dumb - if a stranger walks into your house then you just let them? Tell him to GTFO and/or push him out of the door if necessary...

Reality is people only get fined for this stuff if they're either retarded enough to admit to watching TV while not having one or they let the guy in and he is able to turn the TV on/collect evidence that they have.

since you've been caught red handed you really ought to just buy a license

Most students are smart enough to not let them in (not that they'd find anything... other than my TV only connected to xbox).

It annoys me that the letters treat you like a criminal even though you've done nothing wrong.

You're not correct. As I said above there are two things that the act mentions - the installation, or the use of. They didn't install it, and they didn't use it.

If it meant what you think - living where it was installed then it wouldn't be worded that way, nor would it mention usage, as it would be enough in itself to be present in a property with an installed TV.

7 students living in a house, TV plugged in and tuned, and not a single person has watched it? Don't make me laugh!

Most of us have been students here, and know that a TV license is seen as optional in student life, but unfortunately for you, you've been unlucky and naive.

I'm not sure what your options are, but it's a life lesson.

Lol its their responsabilities, it doesn't matter who installed it. Otherwise I could pay someone to install it and not get fined. You are very much wrong.

Obviously he said who he was. It wasn't me who answered the door, there was 4-5 of us in the living room and my mate answered. He had all his equipment and ID.

If it wasn't for people letting them in like you did they wouldn't exist. Don't feel too bad about it, they con a great deal of people into it.

Regardless any ID shown you can tell them to **** off.
