Just got a ps3 instead of a 5870 and happy :).

:), I was at a moment where I could buy an HD 5870, I gave it some serious thought, I already have a GTX 285 which is doing fine with all my current games, and at the moment only DIRT 2 is dx11, and I also want to wait and see what nvidia brings with the fermi in spring because I have a good hunch it will be gobsmackingly awesome, when I go for a high end part I expect it to be good for at least 2 years with solid drivers & support, else it was not a good purchase, I got badly stung with the 4870x2.

Was also considering a logitech G25 racing wheel before they become unavailable brand new, I prefer it to the crazily overpriced G27 with buttons in the wrong place, on the actual wheel wtf?, bad design I think. wtf=what the flip lol :D.

Whilst browsing the net I stumbled accross uncharted for the ps3 some how and was highly impressed with gameplay footage I found, it looked like a true next gen tomb raider type game and could really imagine myself very much enjoying it.

I don't know why but until very recently I have totally dismissed the ps3 even thou I liked ps 1 & 2, I went the xbox 360 route instead since the 360's release I put pc heatsinks on the cpu & gpu & memory and has never seen any red lights, I do not like gears or halo at all, but now all of a sudden feel like slam dunking my 360 into the bin and saying hello to the ps3, I only really bother with consoles these days for the exclusives that will never come to pc or take forever for a pc release.

The ps3 now has a good handfull of real top quality games finally making it worth buying now so decided to get one with the best games I know of right now.

Got the above titles for £96 combined and all with free 1st class postage thanks to a well known auction site or flea bay as some call it lol, most are still sealed or perfect condition so did really well I think :), woohoo :).

Got Uncharted 2 with the 250GB slim ps3 £265 brand new, best deal I could find anywhere through google, free shipping too, caught it just before they ran out of stock of that pack :).

So basically I got a brand new ps3 with the best exclusive games for the price of a decent gpu that I would probably want to switch come spring for fermi or revised better fermi like gtx280 to gtx285, knowing how iffy ati's drivers can be, I know not everyone has trouble with ati drivers but I did on their high end gpu, not a bad choice I think :).

And plenty of exclusive games to look forward to :cool:.

I was surprised with the playstation home mmo socialising feature thing too, I was not expecting that, and I use a 16:10 monitor and circles are circles at 1080p unlike the 360, nice :cool:.
 
Very nice bundle of games indeed! Be sure to give them the time they deserve as it's very tempting to play each title for like an hour one after the other which really doesn't really get you into the game at all!
 
As long as you don't expect 5870 performance from it you'll enjoy it just fine i'm sure :)

I've always felt the PS3 is the better console to get alongside a PC purely because its exclusives very rarely make an appearance on the PC. Just a little warning about Resistance 1 btw, it's very much a launch title and has sub-par graphics, it's worth playing just for Resistance 2 though.
 
I ordered my first PS3 couple of days ago. £285 from a highstreet store with uncharted 2 and nfs shift. I think it's good value now.

I'd take R1 over R2 anyday. The MP was more fun imo.
 
awesome selection of games!

For me the uncharted series has got to be one of the best franchises ever, awesome games, fantastic story and you'll love the characters.

I mainly use my 360 for multiplayer games, xbox live is better than psn imo, but for single player fun, the ps3 is second to none
 
Good decision mate, if i didn't already own a PS3 Iwould have bought one instead of my 5870. And tbh the way PC gaming is headed you'll probably get another year of high end gaming out of you card. I've decided to go from a yearly upgrade to every 2 years now.
 
I bought my PS3 in June. An impulse buy. In that time there's probably been about 10 days that I havent played on it. I love it. I think a PC with a GTX 285 and a PS3 is much more fun to own than a PC with a 5870 and no PS3. Good selection of games but I would say you have paid just over the odds on most of them. I bought LBP for £8.50 in june.

Make sure you get 'Heavy Rain'
