Just got a PSP, bit late I know..

you'd be choosing between the 1000 and 3000 really.

1000 has an infra-red port (fairly useless)
3000 has a better screen and is slimmer and can do composite output if you buy the necessary cables.

I went for the 1000 (avoid the E1000 like the plague) pre-owned as it was a steal for £29.99 as i have no real need for the tv-output and i prefer the larger casing for getting a hold of it.

Best advice is go into Game/gamestation and ask to see/hold the 1000/3000 if they have them in stock.

Ok guys, yesterday I went into GAME and picked up.

Little Big Planet
Tekken Dark Resurrection
Gran Turismo
Jak and Daxter
Wipreout Pure
Virtua Tennis 3
Monster Hunter Freedom
Crazy Taxi Fare Wars
Motorstrom Arctic Edge
Gods of War Chains of Olympus
Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max
Sega Mega Drive collection
GTA Liberty Stories
and Sega Rally!

All for about 25 quid! Virtua Tennis 3 was 98p !

Going to again over the weekend and try and pick up Metal Gear and some others.

Picked up a PSP 3000 myself in the GAME firesale - bought "pre-owned" but the unit is brand new, a steal for the price, for around £100 I've got a brand new PSP, and about 17 games, loving it so far although I've mainly been using it for SNE's ROMs and some of my old PS1 games (which I'm loving!!!)
