Just got to laugh...

It's a damn rat. People kill them all the time round here so they don't get into farms. Who gives a ****.

Laws are laws, it doesn't matter if it was "just" a rat.

I don't blame them for being hungry and bagging a meal. It was ITV's fault for not consulting their assigned RSPCA officer [just because he or she wasn't on set that day is no excuse].

It is a bit of a non-story but will no doubt get ITV some more publicity.

Arsepca in sensationalist-trying-to-grab-headlines-court-case shocker. They do this a lot.

Chief Inspector David Oshannessy, from the RSPCA in New South Wales, told BBC Radio 5 live there was a "code of practice" which dictated how animals could be used in theatrical productions and films.

Since when was a 'code of practice' law? What law has been broken by killing a rat? The Aussies more than most know all about feral populations (pigs, rats, cane toads etc) and their devastation on their delicate and unique ecosystem. They poison, shoot and 'dog' rats and the like by the million - and quite rightly too.

Oh well, I'm sure it keeps them in the limelight to beg for donations to continue their 'good works' for another few days. Muppets.

So it's perfectly OK for them to eat live grubs yet somehow it's wrong of them to kill and cook a rat?

Smells of complete hypocrisy to me!

My brother just told me they were placed there by the production company. So they weren't wild rats. Stunt rats if you will, lol, hence why they are a bit annoyed.

No source for that so it is purely conjecture!

If it was swiftly dispatched which apperently it was I don't see what the issue is. If anything the only people guilty of any cruelty were those that let a domesticated rat out in the wild.

If I was hungry, saw an animal and I had no other source of food, I'd happily kill a rat and eat it, I don't see the problem

Why is it any different to killing a chicken or a cow?

I think the issue was that this wasn't a wild rat, it was a tame rat, a pet.

And you can't go around chopping up pets for public entertainment.

Well they could have had "rat-o-van"

"Whats that, no let me guess.... Its a rat which has been run over by a van"

Did it come out of a cage?

Some youngsters pet?

Yes it came out of the cage the animal handler had it in.

The contestants were never in danger of starving and the animal was killed purely for your entertainment. That is why they were arrested for animal cruelty.

Killing animals for the titilation of the public probably isn't something we should be encouraging.
