just like to vent a little, am pretty sure its my fault, but I was about 3 quarters of way out a parking space when a woman in a fiesta comes up and tries to squeeze through a tiny gap gets half way through and stops and my car hits her side mirror and possibly the door at about 2mp.

to be fair she was sound about it and because we work at the same place just told her what department I work in, now she agreed with me it looked fine and the mirror just seemed to bend back but it is semi dark.

where do I stand with regards to repairs and liability, there is witnesses to what happend obviously would not go through insurance.

am fuming tbh as it was icy and the visability was crap as it was, as I said I am pretty sure its my fault and I fully accept that but just want some of you guys opinions.

Hate to say it, but in any insurance company's eyes (I know you're not going through insurance) you would definitely be at fault since you were doing a reversing maneuver and she was stopped. Granted, she was stopped AFTER you started moving, but she was still stopped and you were backing out of a parking spot.

Very slim chance it can be taken in any way as being even partly her fault.

its icy I was reversing out of the space, windows was deiced, checked behind nothing there start to reverse get 3 quarters out she drives behind me turn back to see a half melting window and no car but then thump.

heh if its seen as my fault fine I just wanted to know so that if I try to get shafted for somethin I will just say take it to the insurance as to be honest thats what there for. :)

plus my cars fine so heh

I find reversing into spaces much easier anyway, especially tight spaces. When you are reversing you can have more say over the end of the car thats going into the space first (ie the back) because essentially its now rear wheel steering. Driving in to tight spaces frontways is much more difficult becuase you have to get the angle just right or the back of the car wont swing round enough and you will be squint, or off to one side of the space.

Anyway, thats another thread entirely... :p

What can you say Davie - women driver's huh

Make them all get the bus so women dont drive, thats gotta make the roads a safer place ;)

just an update she never did come and see me and by the time christmas is over she better not try then come and claim, what bump there was no bump :p

"Poo" happens.

I'd offer her a few quid and leave it at that.

NOT one for the insurance I'd have thought.

Merry Christmas! :)

I know this doesnt help but its why I like to reverse into parking spaces initially.
Ditto. Although reversing in might be a bit of a pain, reversing out is a bigger one :) Especially if you have a bigger car.

Kinda related, but the 'health and safety' people at my work mandate that all cars in the car park should be reversed into the spaces so that there is less risk of people getting ran over by reversing vehicles..

lol do your health and safety pay for damages for people who attempt to reverse park and balls it up :p
