Just had my visa debit card fraudulently used!

Thanks Captain Obvious.

Looks like someone didn't take his GCSE Sarcasm exams!

I think the point was they are overpriced/expensive

Never before has someone missed the point by so much.

And never before have so many people taken a deliberately obtuse statement as literal before ;)

I not only took GCSE Sarcasm, but hold a Degree in advanced sarcasm and a PhD in Sarcasm and Trolling.

I'm well aware of the sentiment that was behind the comment :p

Its never happened to me thus far, but my dads had his debit card details ripped off by some **** in a call centre. He got it sorted out and the charges voided, but its still a jarring experience.

Closest I've had is on my old credit card, anytime I ordered somethnig from Blizzards EU store, I got a call immediately from them reporting my card showing as being used in a "games arcade" in France. No matter how many times I explained Blizzard were a games company based in France and it was me using the card, they phoned me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!

Lol, had this happen twice (and I'm very careful). One time bank phoned me saying if I was in Italy... card had tried to be used minutes before obviously cloned.

Had my play account hacked before too, quite sure they stole my details and I'll never return (gave card no etc over phone, they had no record of it). Dodgy as hell.

Hindsight, such a wonderful thing isn't it...

Hope this all gets sorted for you quickly OP

To the person with the wonga transaction. The exact same thing has just happened to my fiancee. Only it was £418. Never used wonga before or had anything to do with them.

What is with the wonga fraud?

I had a problem a couple of months ago, where £313 or there abouts was pending to go out my account, and after going through fraud department it turned out it was a payment to Wonga. I've never used Wonga before, and no one that I know has used Wonga, so after phoning Wonga to find out the script, they told me they had no information with regards to my name on their system at all.

Most likely someone has gotten your card details.

What happens is someone gets your card details (if you hand your card over at a petrol station for example) and they note down the 3 digit number on the back, as well as the card number and expiry date.

They use services like Wonga, or high value items like jewellery or electronics to turn the card details into cash.

More sophisticated frauds are where they place monitoring into chip and pin machines and produce a cloned card, often for use abroad.

Had this happen to me a few years ago where someone in Dixons copied my card (before chip and pin). Stopped to use the ATM walking home from work and 5 mins later HSBC called me to ask about some transactions which were obviously bogus. Found out they had bought stuff from Tesco and Littlewoods, however Littlewoods would not give me any info at all even though it was my name and card used to buy the stuff. Its just galling to think of people using your hard earned cash like that.

Happened to me even though I thought I would never be affected.

Money was replaced as soon as i finished the call.

Epic trolling, I would imagine.

And it worked :p

Nope, people can't keep hiding behind "I was trolling" because they're stupid or didn't understand. In no possible earth is that remotely anything but something he quite clearly misunderstood.

I've often though trolls are either two types of people

1: One's who act stupid and have no problem pretending to be, to get kicks out of it.
2: Are stupid and use it an an excuse.

I thought that the 2 troll types were

1: The classic internet troll from Web 1.0 who posts on bulletin boards to get the attention of the regulars mainly to tease them off or start a flame war until the troll gets banned after 2 or 3 similar attempts. It's not taken personally because the troll has targeted the whole board.

2: The newer troll from Web 2.0 who set up hate journals / art on sites like deviantART, usually targeted at one person and is therefore a personal attack. These trolls seem to be good at ban-evasion.

Please, tell me more about how you know what I clearly misunderstood!

edit:

The best trolls do it without you even realising.

;)

The intention wasn't to troll (much), but it shows how easy it is!

It appears the joke went above most people's heads and my explaination has been misconstrued as '"Backtracking" and "Type I Trolling". I ain't even mad bro.

I had my credit card details stolen a few years back.

Got a call from my Mum early in the morning asking me if I was expecting a delivery. While she was on the phone, the delivery driver said to her that I'd turned up at the courier's depot to pick the package up. They refused to hand the package over to the person.

Phoned the credit card company and they went through the recent transactions and there was about £2000 of computer gear on my account.

I was sitting in my office later on and I got a call from another courier. They said that they'd been to my house to deliver a package and someone claiming to be me had approached them on the pavement and tried to take the package. They didn't hand the package over either.

I always worried about this as I used to use my debit card a lot online. How much protection is there for debit cards? I know you can have the extra security code online but I have used my card abroad and for the most random things in different locations and my bank have never rung me regarding dodgy transactions.

If someone spent everything in your debit account is the money gone or are the bank likely to refund it? provided you can proove its fraudulent etc
