Just out of interest - Macbook and Netbook owners?

Wondered how many Macbook owners also owned a netbook? And if, like myself, am struggling with using it due to the OS choices?

I have currently run windows on my netbook due to all the hardware, sleep etc working. Most of the Linux distros I tried didn't support the netbook hardware as well.

Only interested as I am almost tempted to pick up and old 12" powerbook or similar in place of the netbook purely for OS X use on the go!

I had a netbook which I was really happy with, it worked perfectly and was really handy but I wasn't comfortable with the size. I found the keyboard far too small for comfortable use and the tiny trackpad was awful. So I dumped it and bought a Macbook Pro instead.

I owned a Windows desktop and a Macbook. After I while I found that I was only using my MacBook when I was away from my desktop and I didn't really need all of the features and power it offered. When these netbooks started to take off I picked up a Samsung NC10 and eventually sold my MacBook. I don't think a netbook can replace a computer unless you're a very light user (of computers) but they do make a very good companion to your main computer.

Aside from my 13" uMacbook, I also have 2x Samsung NC10's. One runs Win7 RC1, the other runs the bundled XP SP3 that came with it. My only issue with these lovely machines is the tiny trackpad - it's hard to go back to one of those after using the large macbook/pro pad. Both are brilliant machines but they haven't the responsiveness of a multicore cpu. I use mine to lend to friends should they visit for a stay, and they can be incredibly useful as a mini backup pc.

What is the spec on that powerbook?

I used to have a Samsung NC10, but upgraded to a MacBook Pro. I liked the portability of a Netbook but found myself wanting more screen real estate and a bigger trackpad.

The trackpads on uMacBooks / MacBook Pros are second to none and I'd never go back! Having a portable powerhouse like a MacBook Pro is really handy too (I don't feel the need to lug my big PC back home for Uni holidays)

I too had an NC10 but switched to a 13" uMBP.

I didn't like the NC10's small trackpad the the MBP trackpad is incredible. Also the extra screen real estate is useful, and I find OSX very nice to use.

I had an Eee for about a week before the tiny trackpad and cramped keyboard did my head in, so sold it and got a MBA instead :D

edit: which apparently didn't help with my typing skills...

Just bear in mind that the 12" powerbooks will be 5+ years old, and whilst they're great and can still handle most things, you can't expect too much of them! I'm still running a 15" powerbook G4 and it can run photoshop, indesign etc. It's a great web browser but it struggles with streaming video, youtube is just about ok and anything HD won't work. Also my batteries completely shot, so if you're wanting to use it on the go then you may need a new one.... Which may be expensive.

Damn cool machine though and I'd take one over a netbook any day:)

To be honest, if I don't have my Macbook to do some short simple tasks, I tend to just use my iPhone. Especially for things like email, calender and notes etc. ;)

I have seen a last version 1.5Ghz G4 PB on a popular auction site and reckon for netbook type stuff will be fine :)

I too am struggling with the comprises really on the netbook, may be a tablet is in my future!
