Just Put the Deposit Down on my 1st Car , What you think?

It won't pass an MOT with the airbag defective. Airbag replacement can cost up to £1000.
It will go through the MOT fine.

Also just looked at the other pics and it looks a little battle scarred and generally a bit unloved. Could spell trouble....

Kamerad- to be fair the 1.4 is as good as any other 1.4 out there and is perfectly good enough for a first car. They also stand up to abuse pretty well (touches wood) if the milage is genuine and its been serviced better than its been cosmetically looked after it should have plenty of life left in it.

A friend of mine recently bought a car with a few niggling faults, thinking that they would be bearable. He soon changed his mind and is now looking to get rid of his car only a few weeks after getting it.

I can see this car being like that, but being un-sellable due to the lack of MOT.

They aren't a bad engine, perfectly fast enough for what they are just from my own experience they don't like been driven hard which that seller most likely will have done from the mess he's made of the car :p My opinion is that when buying a car you should always go for one that is stock. Twin exhaust on a 75bhp engine?

Ah yes, I remember now you used to own one :o I agree with you though the exhaust and K&N is a bit of a joke on it :p

Just noticed the sprayed straight over the black plastic colour coding and how its near enough warn off on the door handle :p

I was under the impression airbag warning light = MOT faliure.

I have the MOT paperwork in front of me as I've just had one done on my car and it doesn't mention anything about the airbag at all - only that the ABS warning lamp must go out after 5 seconds.

well the car was declared a cat D on the 3rd april 2001, maybe thats when the airbag was deployed andthen neverreplaced

can you link me up please :o

The airbag is not tested on the MOT. By that I mean if the light it on its not a fail.

Only problem is if you crash you have no airbag... obviously.

edit: Doesn't make it a good car... I would find something a bit tidier.

Yep i was under the impression its an inspected item on the mot, if its fitted its got to work, much like the rear wash / wipe.
As said above, the airbag doesn't come into the MOT. Neither does the rear wash/wipe. :)

Must admit it does seem a bit strange, i'm sure it will be part of the MOT at some point in the near future.

What, is a cat D a write off?

No-where in that listing has he declared it a write off so you can claim your deposit back with paypal because the car was not as described on Ebay, no way you could lose.

On a side note, if it is a write off, don't go near it with a bargepole.

Cat - D is one which can be repaired structuraly and then pass a independent test .. from what i read
