Just re-installed Assassins Creed 2.

Went from a E8400 @4Ghz to a i7 @4Ghz, jesus it's running smooth, binned it when it first came out due to low fps, just been sitting in my draw for a few months, so chuffed it's working right.
Its optimised for Core i7 as Intel worked closely with Ubisoft to utilise the extra cores which is why Intel were at one stage giving the game with the Extreme Edition Core i7 CPU's.

Has the constant internet connection DRM gone? I read somewhere a week or 2 back that it had been scrapped.

I think I read somewhere it is still there, but wont boot you out of your game if you get disconnected while playing, but it still checks via internet when you first boot up the game. Meanwhile the pirates who didn't pay a penny still enjoy being able to play the game whenever they wish - internet or not while legitimate customers are still being penalised even though they have paid for their game . Sort it out Ubi.

Yeah I know,it's a total farce mate. I managed to complete and enjoy AC2 despite the crazy DRM so it's not a total game breaker,i'd still like to see the back of it though, for this reason i'm holding out on Splinter Cell Conviction and POP Forgotten Sands.

One good thing about the DRM though is some of the Ubi games that carry it are obviously not selling well as both of the games i mention above are already at bargain basement prices despite being relatively recent releases.

I was flabbergasted to read on GamesIndustry.biz (registration required, unfortunately) that the Ubisoft guy behind that DRM is advocating always-online DRM for consoles now, in light of the PS3 hack.

Wow and here's me thinking that this thread died, cheers for all the replies guys, just so excited it's working ok now.

Just remember Dave loves you all, even if you're sarcastic:D
