I had enough of my noisey pc and so decided it was time for some action.

I purchased two 120mm Akasa amber fans to replace the old racket making 120mm's. I also purchased a Zalman VF-900CU to replace the whining 1800xt stock cooler. Finally I purchased rubber spacers to go inbetween everything that is screwed into the case (HD's,PSU,etc) hoping that it would reduce vibration.

Just finished installing it all and wow is my pc quiet, I can actually hear myself think. I should have done this a long time ago. :)

And now you'll hear the PSU, HDs, CPU cooler... silencing a PC is never ending ;)

I have 1 case fan, an akasa Amber at 7v (900rpm), the CPU fan, an aerocool 120mm at 1000rpm. I'm now looking at getting some HD enclosures as mounting them with elastic doesn't hide the seek noise. Also thinking about changing my caseto an A05 with Silent Eagle fans running at around 6-700 rpm and my CPU cooler to something that will run passively...

Yeah now the pc is so quiet I can hear my CPU cooler (A64 freezer), so that might get changed next. Luckly my psu is quiet (FSP Sparkle), and I can only hear the hard drives when they seek which is a minor. Overall very pleased.

Have been down that road myself... You end up going mad trying to find that one last elusive noise!

easiest answer I found was longer cables. Put the pc in another room/ventilated cupboard with a breakout box for power/reset and leds... USB dvd-rw and off you go. SILENCE!

I use headphones so I wasn't too bothered about noise...

Then I bought a 40db fan... that was really annoying.

So I 5V modded my fans (tried 7V first) and now everything in my case is pretty much the same volume - can hear the fans and the PSU and the harddrive.

I wouldn't go as far as looking for silence but quiet is a definate improvement and if you find a nice ballance you can have good cooling too!

I`d go bonkers if i kept on being aware of the noise my pc`s make. Even when it is quiet, it isnt quite right, so i go off for a cigarette and make some more modding plans. safe to say it`ll never be as silent as i`d want it !

Try getting an Akasa 955 CPU cooler.. ouch.. that thing at full blast is nasty. Just picked up the Noctua CPU cooler along with the Zalman VF-900-CU. Blissful silence.. now to get my motherboard working....

OP, youve done what i did with my old rig, bought a AC NV silencer for my 6800 and 80mm and 120mm vantec stealth's. silence is bliss, there is only so long i could listen to a hurricane in the corner of my room.

LED fans and a Vantec Nexus where a big mistake though seeing as i kept my pc on 24/7 in my bedroom, trying to sleep was hard as. kept wakeing up thinking that mulder and scully where tracking down the aliens
