Just test drove a M3 & RS3 back to back...

Out of those two I would go for the M3 as the RS3 is based on a car almost 10 years old and it really shows with the navigation/bluetooth/instrument cluster. I found the Audi system very poor compared to the RNS510 system in my MK5 Golf, the Golf cluster also allows full phone book search etc from the MFSW which you can't do with the last generation A3 cluster. The current I drive system is miles ahead of the old Audi system.

The 4wd does have its benefits, I had my sisters S3 for a couple of weeks and the amount of grip/traction it offers in the wet is eye opening coming from a FWD car. I went for a road trip up to Glencoe with my friend and it was fairly even with a e46 M3 but on the way back it was raining and he had to call me to ask me what way I went :D

I would recommend you try a F10 or F11 that's what I plan to change to from my current car.

To be fair the E90 first appeared almost 8 years ago itself. Both cars are at the sort of place in the model lifecycle where its hard to imagine a case for spending enormous money on a nearly new example.

BMW at least updated the I drive system, the system in the Audi is based on a MFD2 system from a 2004 Golf.

To be fair, i don't think he's choosing between 414bhp and 335bhp car based on its bluetooth / phone book merits.

I personally find the navigation/infomatic system a very important part of car ownership as that is how you interact with the car systems listen to audio etc. I would be upset spending 40k on a car and then have to spend two or three minutes to input an address with a partial postcode into a 8 year old navigation system.

Don't even get me started on the poor Bose system that has a mic in the roof to regulate the volume, sounds great until someone talks and it turns the volume up. You would have thought they would have an option to turn it off but no you need to cut a cable to the Bose amp.

Just based on the RS3 wheels, get the M3

The RS3 I test drove had chavtastic black wheels with a rim of red on the outside. They looked supremely rubbish.

Funnily enough there is never a good time to buy anything - just like computers there is always something better just around the corner. Yes one is based on an 8 year old example and one on a 10 year old or whatever, but at the end of the day a 335i is just that. Its not an M3 just like a S3 is not a RS3.

Your very very wrong.

I intend to stand my ground on this, but am all ears.

Please do explain how a 2.5l 5cyl, 1,450kg, 335hp (albeit with a £400 remap), 174mph coupe is of the same performance as a 5.2l, 10cyl, 1,620kg, 525hp, 197mph coupe.

V10 is a different ball game.
I've been talking about the R8, not the R8 V10, a TTRS will need more than remap to keep up with the V10 version.

But in a straight line the V8 R8 is hardly any quicker than a stock TTRS, remap the TTRS and it's quicker than the V8 version.

But watch this TTRS

Yep they are dull to drive, understeer like crazy but people hugely under-estimate how quick they are and how cheap and easy it is to get another 100BHP out of them. :)

I've really grown to like the TTRS since my friend bought one. Unfortunately he had it stolen off his drive but managed to replace it with another one that came with the MTM 472bhp package + race exhaust. It's a very scary car to be a passenger in.

I know! When he got his insurance payout he saw a nice looking approved used TTRS from an Audi dealer and went down to see it. Liked the spec and colour etc but then the dealer mentioned it had a few modifications. Turned out the previous owner had given it the MTM 472 conversion. Lucky sod.
