Just test drove a M3 & RS3 back to back...

i might buy me one of those keyfobs off watchdog n come in the middle of the night n take it for a PERMANENT test drive:p:D:D:D

I've drove the green ttrs back when I worked at pipercross earlier this year, bonkers is an understatement.

Got a mate who had a TT RS, did the remap, cost him £400 and it was just a bit over 400BHP, it was crazy and far quicker than an R8 V8 version without doubt.

Intercooler, intake and exhaust and they sit between 440-460BHP, intercooler £500, intake £200, exhaust £1000, Audi seem rather OK with the modding too, were ok with the guy I knew, but at end of day his engine did not let go, I suspect if the engine exploded then it would be a different game.

He used to go to a lot of the race days, like VMAX etc. and most cars it went up against he beat and just like those guys in the M5 were rather surprised and upset as to how it does it.

I don't get it either, 400BHP, 1450kg, 4WD are generally not so quick unless with like crazy power or if they are a GTR. But the TT RS having driven them is so easy to launch, has power everywhere and they go like absolute smelly stuff of a shovel.

Only if they were more fun and engaging to drive.

In answer to NickXX the R8 V10, is 0-60 in 3.8s and quarter mile in 12s flat. A stock 2012 TTRS which now have 365BHP do 0-60 in 3.9s and quarter mile in just over 12s. Based on that I'd like to see a Stage 1/2 TT RS run against a R8 V10, I think the V10 would edge it, but I think you'd be very surprised as to how close it would be. But the V8 R8 is beat by the stock TT RS!

good shout.

I would prefer the M3 to the RS3 though tbh.

Any BMW M car over any Audi to be honest, they are all dull to drive in comparison and are not drivers cars, R8's excluded.

If I was going BMW, for me it would be M3 CSL, followed by 1M, followed by M5. If you buy a new BMW make sure its got the security resolved otherwise even I can steal it within 3 minutes no problem.

I saw the other topic but I didn't realise it was THAT easy..

In short, smash window (alarm won't sound), plug in your OBD programmer, plug in blank key, programme key. Drive off!

BMW Oh dear! For security install a 3rd party alarm, fit a disclock, disconnent the OBD port, get the recall from BMW. How BMW made such a mistake and took a year to admit it, OH DEAR!

RS3 - you'll be able to use it's power in the wet too and be 100000's times better in snow
I know we don't get much snow, but we do get plenty of rain :(

Otherwise would be a great call. Which engine does the 1M have in it? N54?

If so, just how powerful could I get my Z4 which also has the N54 in it :D

Berger motorsports have a 135i with the n54 running about 580bhp :p think it's fairly easy to see 450bhp with only small mods (jb4 and methanol should do that)

Reading between the lines, it seems that most would go for the M3 based on the driving dynamics (pleasure). As I mentioned in my first post, I was surprised by the little difference I could feel between the power of the M3 and the RS3. This was possibly because I wasn't redlining the M3 everywhere and its power comes higher up the rev range.

Day to day the RS3 may well be the better car to live with, especially in adverse weather conditions. But all the reviews I have read unanimously suggest that it won't reward like the M3. They do however keep their value, some suggesting that it is the best depreciating car in the UK, worth £20k in 3 years. That may explain the laughable discussion yesterday of a goodwill discount of £300-500 on a £40k car lol.
