Just watched Donnie Darko

I love Donnie Darko, I think it's a fantastic film. I found that even if you don't like all the characters, you'll probably have strong feelings about them. Almost all of the dialogue in the film seems natural and works well, which is pretty important.

The first thing I think of with Donnie Darko is the soundtrack, it's perfect.

I saw it a little bit before the hype machine really got going though, and I wouldn't be surprised if that meant people watching it for the first time now would be a bit disappointed. A bit like when I saw The Usual Suspects recently, even though it was a very good film, having heard so much about it before it was a bit of a letdown.

I watched it a few years ago and thought it was rubbish, quite surprised as im usually into that kind of film.

was made a bit easier by seeing the Directors Cut' sort of explains things a bit more, although I believe most people dislike the directors cut for various reasons, including changing some music, but I loved it.

Yep, Directors cut is nowhere near as good as the normal version, which is a quite shocking as most people in a DVD shop would presume the Directors Cut version is the better so they'll see that version instead! :(

Not seen 'Darko since it was on at the cinema so i'm gonna have to give it a watch again pretty soon.

:)

One of the few films I've watched against immediately after the first time. Firstly because I was sure I'd missed stuff and secondly because I really enjoyed it.

Ok, so it wasn't immediately after the first viewing - there was a half hour gap while I visited the website. That made me even more curious :)

I'm not sure I understand it. Hell, the writer has gone on record saying he doesn't understand it, and that there is no one true meaning of it.

I think it's a beautiful film. It ranks with American Beauty, Lost In Translation, Eternal Sunshine, etc as films that restore my faith in life.

I was totally underwhelmed by it, although i had spent about three years in the company of someone who thought it was THE best thing in the entire world bar nothing, so perhaps I was expecting too much.

It was a half good film, nothing special :/

it's a cult thing, about 4 years ago every 'indie' kid at uni harped on about this film, you had to like it :o

it's ok but once was enough for me :p

Claiming it's "uncool" to admit that some films make you think is ridiculous. It's like saying poetry and books are shallow.

In my opinion the best films out there are the ones that can in some way change your life, no matter how subtle or how large. If I leave the cinema thinking about the film and asking myself questions then usually it is a great film.

Donny Darko was very much a wtf!?
It remained so until someone here posted a link to an article that actually explains a lot of the film in relation to the time travel book that is mentioned. All of a sudden the stuff about the elements and everything all started to make sense and the plot all came together in my head at long last. Unfortunately I haven't got that link around anywhere at the moment, will grab a look later on and hopefully find it.

I dont realy know what to say except omg what an amazing movie, the story the acting the total wtfness :p

Totally blew me away, I had never realy wanted to watch is as found the whole bunny thing crazy but it realy does work in the movie. Im going to put this in my best movies of all time dvd section.

Did anyone else find this movie amazing, I know its getting on now. Soundtrack is fantastic aswell.

back at uni a mate of mine recommended it, so we got hold of it and watched.

at the time i enjoyed the ride but ultimately felt it didn't add up. now i've watched it again and remember thinking up some possible explanation but overall i just don't think it's clever enough to make me really want to think about it. it's just a weird trip, you just know the films weird in an appealing way, lots of odd connections, but don't try to piece it together or you'll be left scratching your head. (i think i remember hearing a lot of the cult followers make up their own various ideas for how the film works overall).

someone mentioned Butterfly Effect. i liked that much more. felt more twisted, totally psychological, but the film ended and i didn't have to figure out what the hell had happened.
