Just watching Coppers...

its not the drink that causes people to be violent and badly behaved its the fact that they are knobs. 'binge drinking' is a scapegoat

Very true.
I know many people who 'binge' drink and are never a problem because they haven't got that 'knob' in them.
I know a lot of people on these forums think I'm a knob but I guarantee that if they saw me in a pub I would be the bloke sitting quietly up a corner and if they fed me drink I'd be even quieter and it would take a lot to bring aggression out of me.

Saturday night was a classic example of a knob and exactly the type who can't control their drink.
During our second set this bloke was up dancing and having a right good time and after the gig he came over and started to praise me for about 5 minutes and his accent showed he didn't come from around here.
He then said that he was very drunk and he'd got to be up at 6am in the morning for work.
We have a little bit of a saying in parts of Stoke and I said jokingly "Well somebody has got to get up to drive that bus" and he completely turned into knobman threatening me with a kicking until the bouncers came over and removed him.
I tried to explain it was just a saying when somebody has had a drink but he claimed I was insulting him for calling him a bus driver :D
Those are the people who let binge drinking down.

1) that person started swearing first. The police officers told them calmly and politely to leave. They only started swearing when they were abused and their buttons pushed. This is human nature and entirely understandable

2) the meat head was arrested because he broke the instruction to leave. Theres no point in having powers if you arent going to enforce them. I suspect taking him back to the police station, then releasing him without charge was entirely down to his calm behaviour. Had he kicked off, swore, kicked and punched as they usually do, he would have been booked. Nice to see officers using the power of discretion for a change instead of reading from a book.

3) the couple were arrested because there is a clear force policy on domestic disputes. This is born out of years of experience separating domestics, leaving the individuals, then being called back out again later in the day, again and again as the argument goes on. You can't separate the parties involved in a domestic the way you separate two randoms from fighting in a street. So it's best just to nip it in the bud and arrest both. Where does it end ? when they start fighting again ? when the mates turn up and join in too ? or when one of the mates stabs the other ? Domestics can so easily escalate its easier to stop it early.

4) the bloke who was punched by the hulk was arrested for being a ****. I wouldnt say it was obvious he was copis mentis at all. He was play acting like a girl, mouthing off, he had the smack from the guy dressed as the hulk coming imo. Whatever they put on the charge sheet doesnt really matter, he was arrested for acting like a ****

5) The respect was lost by the police themselves was it ? in your opinion obviously. 'Cos its cool to hate the police isn't it ?

Well rebutted MrLOL.
My sentiments exactly
I swear some people want to bash the police just because they've had a run in with them in the past and some how feel aggrieved, that or they are stereotyping the lot of them.

Criminals need a good kicking in the back of the police van, Russian style. Silly fines and 24 hours in a comfortable police cell doesn't do jack.

It works for the Ruskies. They respect the police. :p

It's similar to what the copper said, the older generation respected coppers because they knew they would get a clip round the ear if they didn't.

i have to say i agree, people arent intimidated by words. This much is obvious from the programme.

People dont get remorseful and start backing down till the tussle starts. But by that point they've got to arrest them.

Thing is i'm not so sure i'd like the alternative with the police able to lash out at whoever they feel like....

Thats crossing too far over to a police state imo where the police are above the law. I just dont think we can go back to the old days when people respected the police and they didnt need to lash out and the threat of it was merely enough. That isnt the case any more which is why it wouldnt work.

People aren't intimidated by the words, or threats of repercussions anymore. Only the actions.
