..... my car costs me per year

I have a 98 2.0l Megane Coupe. Putting it up for sale this weekend.

Tax = £192

Insurance = £986

Petrol = £2400 based on just going to work and to the gf's and the odd run around. Any long trips are added on top of this.

Total - £3578

Then lets not forget services, mot and repairs, tyres, oil.

I think it's time to get a 100cc moped

Thats a lot of insurance for an old car. How old are you? What kind of location are you in?

I'm 22 at the end of this month. Don't have no claims that's the problem. Have previously been insured on someone else's insurance.

I am in a small town called Hucknall in Nottingham

Since old cars are worth less (generally), and insurance takes into account the value of the car.

Though it could be argued that an older car it is harder to source parts, thus costing more to repair one.

No it doesn't - do two quotes for the same car, one twice the age and half the value, it'll be the same price.

There is nearly always a discount for the age of the vehicle.

Not IMX. It doesnt matter if (We'll use my favourite example of the moment) I take a quote for an £18,000 03 plate 20k mile 530i or a £6000 X plate 150k mile one, the quote is identical.

This has always been the case for any quote I've done, halve the age, double the value, quote remains constant.

That sounds stupid enough to be true.

OK done.

My car (2005) value £10K - Premium = £788 (23, 3yrs NCB)
My car (2003) value £5k - Premium = £593 (23, 3yrs NCB)

Makes no difference to me if I say its a 1997 saxo worth 900 quid or a 2003 one worth 5 grand. I thought this was the case all the time?

They must just hate me then:

2003 BMW 530i Sport Value £18000: £813
2000 BMW 530i Sport Value £6000: £813

:confused:

1996 Mk2 Mondeo 2.0 Ghia X Value £400: £650
2001 Mk2 Mondeo 2.0 Ghia X Value £3500: £650

:confused:

ridiculous.
The value of the car should obviously alter the premium. I dont know what kind of logic these companies use these days.

I got a quote next year for my GTI-6, i honestly dont know how i do it. Adding my mum halfs it. With elephant next year, 1 ncb, almost 22, 8k miles a year, social only - £383 TPFT :eek:
