Hey guys am in the middle of sorting out my bike licence for summer and looking at getting a bike soon as they tend to be a bit cheaper this time of year.

What are peoples opinion in a Zx6r for a first bike? There's a 2003 model for sale at a good price near by and was wondering if there was anyone on here who had one as there first bike? recommend it?

Cheers :)

They are a good first bike - they only go really fast when you try hard, so it's not going to get you into trouble, at least accidentally!

If you have had some previous experience on bikes (MX/off - road small road bike) then maybe ish. If not, then I really wouldn't recommend jumping on a 636 to learn. Things could go pear shaped really quickly especially in winter.

My first bike was a 2002 ZX6R 636 A1P and it was a brilliant first bike, learned a lot and was great fun

I don't know if I'd buy a bike before being sure I was a biker, that being said it is a good time to buy. For me when I went to buy my first bike I decided to go with the tamest beginners bike that people would recommend. If I'd had more money I'd have probably just bought the Honda CB650F I learned on.

That being said buying vehicles isn't usually purely practical and you gotta go with your heart a bit on this.

It is both a great and a terrible choice. You will definitely live or die on it.

Either way you'll have some fun :).

@the op,did you get any insurance quotes for it? Just to give you some idea of the cost

You won't die as long as your sensible, and pick the right long clear roads to open it up on,they pootle around towns just fine and make great commuters as well as a Sunday blast

Yeah ive done some quotes and they seem to be very reasonable around the 400/500 mark. would just be for fun as i live close to where i work so by the time I put my leathers on and off it would double the trip :)

To be honest though....
The bike that gave me the most confidence was my 1995 CBR600f.
Excellent bikes, and pretty cheap too.

Might be worth taking a look.
