Keep being flashed while driving at night?

could be fogs, or perhaps some dodgy cluster fault.

i see so many vans and cars when they brake everything lights up, or the the wrong thing does etc or cuts out rear lights etc ]

I love watching crap heaps driving around with flashing brake lights and reverse lights that come on when they brake. Makes me realise how good my french electrics actually are

Have a mate follow you for a drive round the block. Could be an intermittent fault with your rear lights caused by vibration when moving so wouldn't show up when you do a walk-around of the car.
Just had this happen with mine and all it required was a little push on the back of the light cluster to sort it (although I'll be checking it a few times over the next week to make sure it's not a repeat offender fault).

Are you sure you are being flashed? when a car behind goes over a speed bump or something it often looks like they have flashed you.

Have you tried a combo of lights? For example indicators whilst lights are on? Indicators and breaks... Ive seen a few cars where when they indicate their normal lights go off and on with the indicator

Do you have an auto dip mirror?

If so, the split second before it auto dips for a car behinds lights makes you think they are flashing. I stopped at two services to check my 530i over the night I collected it before I twigged it was the auto dimming mirror It's not like a full flash but its different enough to make you wonder.

I get flashed a lot when driving at night in my van, also no idea why, the lights are fine and I adjust them using the twirly thing dependant on the load in the back so my conclusion is, and always has been, people are morons.
