Contract is up this month and am on O2.
I want a cheap deal and only really ever use the free calls and texts (200mins 100txts.) After redemption it's only £5 pm.

Can I keep my number if I get another cheap O2 contract wih free phone etc with say dialaphone?
Or to keep my number will I have to go to O2 direct. If I have to go to O2 direct to get an "upgrade" they're gonna give a rubbish deal as I only use the free mins/txts.

O2 to O2 while keeping your existing number is classed as an upgrade, regardless of where you purchase the handset.

Unless it's O2 Online (bought from www.o2.co.uk) to Retail O2 (and vise versa) in which case it's classed as a new connection - thus you can benifit from the 'new customer' contract offers IIRC.
