Keeping SLI cards cool when they are installed next to each other...

When i added my second GTX470, the temp on the top card was 10c higher than the lower card, im using reference cooled Gigabyte cards. Slot spacing on my motherboard is pretty good.

To bring the temps down i fitted a 120mm fan behind the cards.

They now idle at 32-31, load at 76-77 in game, auto fan speed, overclocked at 751/1502/1684.

Tbh, i was on a shoestring budget.:o:D

Hopefully its only a temporary solution, gonna get a friend to knock me up a frame made of aluminium to hold the fan in place, mount it on a double sided sticky pad on the floor of the case. May also change the current fan, (1600 rpm yate loon) for a 2000 rpm silent eagle.

Rroff, you have to make use of what you have available:D, and it works, ive owned quite a few sli setups, top card always run hotter, first time ive got two cards that run cool in sli, my stock 275's in sli ran hotter than my 470's, (theyre overclocked). i heard a lot of people on here going on about fermi cards being hot, they dont have to be, good cooling, simple mod like mine and your sorted. As for power use, bit ironic, were all members of an overclocking forum, hence the name. If were worrying about power consumption of gpu's, god help this forum., is it becoming a bunch of tree hugging nutters.

Cant say, as i dont have airflow problems. My case is pretty big, good airflow into it, 2 x 140mm fans, 1 x 120mm fan, 2 x 120mm exhausts, 2 x akasa vipers on a prolimatech supermega cooler. cpu idles at 35 max, loads at 64, gpu's idle at 31 29, load at 76-78 ono, auto fan.
