Keys & Gray in Sexism Row

Not really, it's a 'Why does anyone care? Men don't when women are sexist about them' argument.

Sexism is over-blown, it's no big deal. Just take it as a laugh and move on.

I'm actually genuinely surprised that anyone can actually maintain this viewpoint in this day and age. I don't find it even remotely amusing - it's actually someone observing that women, by nature of their genetic make up, have no ability to understand a concept. I find it rather sad actually.

A persons sex should not have any bearing on their ability to do a job. 'You can't do it because you're a woman' is quite rightly viewed as a moronic statement as IMO is "Sexism is over-blown, it's no big deal.".

What does anyone expect, Gray and Keys are morons; they are employed by Sky to appeal to the lowest common denominator, unthinking, knuckle-dragging demographic who are most susceptible to advertising - they are not employed to provide any sort of informed analysis, commentary or education.

For the first, and most likely the only time, i'm agreeing with Stockhausen.

Everyone's neutrality is in question. On air, they have to display neutrality. Off air, they do not.

They thought they were off air...

The embarassing thing for them as far as I'm concerned is that, as far as I gather, the decision they were berating her for was in fact the correct one?

Do you think Alan Brazil is neutral when he's commentating on Celtic Rangers?
We're not talking about bias against a team or players though. Even though I disagree with the comments they made about Theo Walcott off air, I have no problem with them making them (other than that they were pretty moronic). They've at least formed their opinions based upon what they've seen of him playing.

They're questioning the ability of an official to do her job, not based on previous experience of her games, or an in-depth study of her knowledge of football rules, but purely on an outdated notion that her gender is somehow inferior.

Straight-up definition of sexism. I'd say that's pretty poor for a commentator.

And when you're supposed to be an impartial commentator on a football match

Everyone knows about Andy Gray's Liverpool sycophancy, which is what probably prompted his side of the comments since its was a decision against Liverpool at the time. They were both probably ****ing each other off about Kenny Dalglishs return to notice the microphones were still on.

In Dalglish's press-conference this morning, he kicked it off by asking Sky's reporter if it's ok with him if the female journo's are allowed to be there :D

What are your feelings on this Tom84? Or are you happy that copy pasting an article is a reasonable level of effort when creating a new thread?

i posted this in the 'boycotting the media' thread yesterday as i felt it wasn't really starting a whole new thread

Whoa there Mr. White Knight. 'A persons sex should not have any bearing on their ability to do a job' - that's lovely, except back in the real world...certain jobs are more suited to one sex than the other.

You are a typical lefty-PC type, denying the skill set trends exhibited by the different sexes.

I hope they get the sack to be honest, I can't stand either of them.

I loved Greys remark the other week in the spurs/utd game. Saying he was neutral, he couldn't be further up Chelseas/utd's/Liverpools ass if he tried.

They were correct to think they were off air, they were off air. Their comments were not broadcast, as I say its no different to them sitting in a pub having the same conversation and someone taping it. On air they should indeed be impartial and neutral, off air I can no more fault them for having their own opinions than I can fault any person on this forum for their personal opinions on Liverpool, Gerrard diving, dioufs behaviour, world of warcraft players , x factor or anything.

Chelsea's? HA HA never heard anything so funny in all my life.

He detests Chelsea.

Yet all we hear on Monday night football is about Chelsea, Even if the game has nothing to do with them that night?

It's obvious that Sky will spend more time talking about the bigger clubs though. Couldn't say whether Gray was bias either way towards Chelsea but he certainly has an issue with Liverpool. He's spent the last 6 years **** stirring and talking utter ******** about Liverpool.

Tbf, he talks ******** most of the time though.

Hahahaha, do tell Robbie. Other than being on average stronger/faster/generally better at sports, what exactly do men do better than women, because of their gender?

Two Sky Sports football presenters have apologised after they were caught making critical comments about a female assistant referee.

Host Richard Keys and pundit Andy Gray were recorded off-air saying women "probably don’t know the offside rule", when they were discussing the appointment of Sian Massey to Saturday’s Premier League match between Wolves and Liverpool.

Keys said: "Somebody better get down there and explain the offside rule to her."

To which Gray replied: "Yeah, I know, can you believe that? A female linesman. That’s exactly what I was saying: women don’t know the offside rule.

"Why do we call them linesmen?"

Keys then added: "Course they don’t. I can guarantee you there'll be a big one today. Kenny (Liverpool manager Dalglish) will go potty." (Sky)
So, "critical comments about a female assistant referee"?
Not sexist comments?
Not that she wasn't competent to be an assistant referee simply by virtue of her gender?

Typical weasel words from typical News International retards

Idiots, the case of the "thinking the microphone is turned off" reminds me Big Ron, FA should come down hard on them, I watched the first half and she had a good game, got the offside spot on. I dont see why woman cant be linesman, they dont have to interact with male players and they cant do a worst job of some of the male linesmen out their.

It depends on what you're talking about.

Light-hearted banter is one side of it, vast differences in a wage for an identical job is another. Just because you don't see women setting themselves on fire outside Whitehall over it, it doesn't mean it isn't a 'big deal'.

So are you saying women shouldn't be officials? What exactly is it they can't do that would prevent them from fulfilling their job?

They sound like two typical football fans. Can't believe its getting so much attention. I've said the exact same thing about it before, but was made to eat my words when she got a big decision bang on.

As has been said before, its cruel on the lineswoman now as she will have the spotlight on her on every decision she has to make. As soon as she gets one wrong, which she inevitably will, she'll probably be done for.

I was discussing the abuse linesman usually get with my brother.. I'm curious as to what level of abuse she got from the fans in that game, and indeed the specifics!
