KFA 980 SOC SLI top card hitting over 90deg c.

Installed 2 120mm fans into my case, 1 on top 1 at the bottom. Temps now sit at around 85deg when overclocked for top card. Going to put another in front of case where drive bays are.

Plus my latest card (KFA 980 SOC) is still making a slight clicky sound at high fan speed. Ive inspected it and cant find the source.

Get a 200mm side fan on it, dropped the load temp by 10° on my SOCs. I also set a custom fan curve in afterburner. The cooler master Megaflows are very good for about £8.

What's the chances of getting two to fit in pcie 1 & 2 on an x99 pro using 2 x H80is or any 120/140mm rad ?

IIRC you need at least 45/50mm between PCIE slots and thats a bit tight. To give you an idea with 2x970's and a Z97 board.

you need a 3 slot gap between cards to fit 2 perfectly.

my 980 temps never went above 55C.

With my 290x cf 60C max and there hot cards

I was using a z11,its definatly not optimal for SLI at all unless you have blower type cards.

It might be worth removing the HDD cage and placing your drives in the ODD bay to remove the restrictions on the front intake fan. Also put a fan on the bottom next to the PSU wouldn't hurt either.

I'll say again as I've said before, the KFA 980's are utter trash! Naff fans and naff coolers, they can run anything up to 20C hotter than other models of 980 :)

It's why I went over to an EVGA from the KFA

This is the routine I run with SLI/CFX.

a) Swap cards (the bottom card might be better in the top slot)
b) switch sidefan direction and/or create better positive pressure with other fans.
c) put a fan on the side of the HDD bay blowing over cards
d) replace GPU thermal paste with something like mx-4

(last resort measures below)
e) undervolt and underclock
f) place a big normal fan blowing full speed at the cards :) (used this one when mining with a custom open case)

I did A) and it dropped my top card temps by 10c

120/140cm fans side, back and top blowing out really helps my SLI GTX970 dissipate heat well.

The kraken has an 80mm fan and on my 980 is was fine stock. Temps never went above 60c with a 1621 boost clock.

U can add heatsinks if u like i have on my 290xs just as there a little more packed in and tend to get a bit hotter.
