KFA2 Saga continues, offered 970 4GB HOF as substitute for 6GB 780?

Other than the VRAM issue, is this a fair trade do you think? Performance here would suggest it's a step up, I've half a mind to accept it. The VRAM shouldn't really be a huge issue, only 1 game (Shadows of Mordor) filled the VRAM.

Anyway, accept or possibly wait longer as they're struggling to get another 780 6GB.

Ask for a 980, say that the 500mb VRAM issue wouldn't be suited as there's a reason you bought the 6gb model.

Could try and wing it, worst comes to worst you end up with a 970.

I've already said if they can't get me a 7806GB the least I would take would be either a 780ti or a 980. They said the 970 is the best they can do.

Well I don't know what retailer you're dealing with. From now on, I'll be ordering from one of the big players that will give me a full refund regardless if there's a week or 3 years left on the warranty, no messing about.

I would try for a 390 8GB, about the same price as a 970.

That sucks as you will have 2.5gb less of vram. This is a joke I would say. Either gtx 780 6gb or maybe you could pay like £30-60 to get 980, it's worth asking if you willing to pay?

I would write back stating that a 970 would be a fair replacement if the card you RMA was a 780 3GB, but for a 6GB card you feel something slightly better would be appreciated such as the 980, which uses the full speed of the 4GB in comparison of the 3.5GB + 0.5GB of the 970.

Try and blag it "the customer is always right!"

Offer to pay the differentcefor a 980 otherwise say you want a refund & go elsewhere you will take a financial hit but no other way. Otherwise take the offered card sell it & buy something else new from somewhere else!

Replied:

I think that if it were a standard 3GB 780 then a 970 would indeed be a worthy replacement but the shortage of VRAM (only 3.5GB usable at full speed) doesn’t make it a valid substitute for the 6GB 780 I had, bought specifically for the 6GB VRAM which I paid extra for.

Considering I paid £399.99 for it and both the KFA2 GeForce GTX 980 "8Pack Edition" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-074-KF&groupid=701&catid=1914) and the KFA2 GeForce GTX 980 SOC Gamer 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (98NQH6DNC7VZ) (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-003-GX&groupid=701&catid=1914) are currently the same price or cheaper I feel a 980 would be a more suitable replacement.

Bit suprised they are being so finicky about a replacement for such a high end card, it's pretty much understood that you get offered a replacement no less than the card you originally bought. The only Nvidia card which meets the standard of your old card is the 980ti with it's 6gb frame buffer. That is not your fault. Like for like. You have been inconvenienced by a defective part that they sold you, it happens. They don't then offer you a card better in some areas and worse in others, you paid a premium over the 3gb version and they should honor that. Like For Like. They are being ****y about offering you a 980 over a 270? Seriously, link them to my comment so they may feel the burning shame.

1 thing you have to bear in mind on these replacements is they always make allowances for depreciation/fair use so thats most likely why they do not want to offer a 980 (which seems very petty to me & puts me off buying a KFA2 anytime soon if this is how petty they are over such a minor difference to them (but major difference to you).

I would hold out for a 980.

If it was a 3gb 780 I would say a 970 as a replacement is fine but as you paid extra for the 6gb version, the least they could do is replace it with a 980.

The difference in cost to them between a 970 and 980 is probably peanuts.

Update!

Success! I've now been offered a KFA2 980 SOC which I have accepted! Hopefully it will be here soon!
That's good news! But it was still rather poor that have to put you on the spot of having to keep going back and forth with them. But I suppose possbily the staff that handled initial RMA process didn't understand the 780 6GB's value over 780 3GB.
