Apologies, I've been searching for a while and cannot find IIRC( Khan's) thread regarding a mobile phone holder for your car that was featured on hackaday.

Can anyone link me?

Apologies as it always annoys me when other people do this..

You may as well just buy a proper mount for all the cost/effort. I've been using the below for over a year with no problems: good suction (giggidy), very sturdy, fits any phone and comes with two different mounts.

Im sorry but i went through plenty of things like that and they are just genetic bulky crap. The beauty of the DIY one is that you fit a hard case that is the exact size of your mobile and its very compact and simple. Use my DIY one every day no problems.

Nice one Khaan

I've had many of those over the years and it's not that great. Okay maybe it's fine/passable in a Corsa/Astra or something that rides quite soft but anything sporty and it's not very vibration-resistant.

I have used a /lot/ of car mounts now and my DIY mount is still the best. Well, 2nd best for rigidity next to Samsung's official mount but for everything else it is the best.

I recently picked the one up you have in your DIY thread (the £9 one your DIY one replaced) for my X10, doesn't vibrate too much but I guess the extra width of the X10 over the Desire helps there :p

In fact it's tight enough that I can get away without using the top clip if need be so I can use phone as a vid recorder when driving :)

I have had a few cheap ones and managed to break them all during use, I am sure some of them are ok just not the ones I tried!

In the end went with an Exomount. Been using it for a few months now I think and pretty much perfect for me. Only minor issue compared to others is that you need to hands to place the phone in the holder.
