Kids playing out on the street

lol, we use to play in the street and would get moaned at by OAPs, one guy was really bad and actually rung the police saying we hit his sons car and dented it.
 
We used to play football in the street all the time as kids, if the grass was wet or hadn't been cut it was the only option. One woman never put the handbrake on her car so we'd push it 10 yards down the road, play a game and then push it back :D

In all my years playing on the street we never broke a window or did any damage to anything.

People want kids to go outside and play instead of sitting on the computer all day, then people complain that they are running aorund playing sports in the street?
 
I have a similar problem except we are the end house in a terrace so we get all the kids kicking the ball against the wall etc, they also seem to congregate outside our house just under our 20 month old daughters window.

Normally it wouldnt bother me but just lately it seems some of the older kids are being more loud than normal, more abusive than normal and more destructive than normal.

So i decided to take my brothers tactics on board, so this is what i do....

If i have to go out i do so and ask the kids to move, if they mouth off i tell them to **** off, if they give me some more chew i tell them to go home and tell their dads to come round and see me.

Only once has any of them come back with their dad, that problem was sorted out quickly as soon as i said that his darling little son had woken up my daughter by throwing his ball up against her window and if he did it again i was going to pop the ball cut it in half and force feed it to father and son.

Its a cul-de-sac so speak to all your neighbours and get their views.

If enough of you band together you can buy those claymores and blow them apart remotely

or approach the parents and feign the "please stop them they might damage my car" line

So where? I'm not saying its right to play in the street, some kids dont give a crap and will gladly ruin stuff. But as a kid our options were: a) the doggy park, a small patch of grass set inside the block of houses, so called because it was FULL of dog crap from owners who could care less b) Ashburton Park, probably a 20 minute walk or 7-8 minute ride, right next to a really crappy school whos headlines include burning teachers hair and destroying peoples cars.

In the end we played in the street, it was a dead end so we were as safe as we were going to get and as i said, we never did any damage. We were home by 6 or 7 in the summer and probably 5 in the winter. We were all local kids from that street and the couple near it so anyone living in the street knew where at least one of us lived if there were any problems.

Bear in mind that this was when we were anywhere from 8-12ish, it all stopped when we all went off to highschool as we barely saw each other. By that time we were alla little bigger and were less likely to get our ball nicked by some slightly older ladies part.

Obviously if the kids are not little angels like us then its different. my mum gets all irate because a group of 12-16 year olds hand around on the street corner talking. I get why they might look a bit scarey to the locals who have been petrified into thinking that all children carry a knife, but in reality nothing ever happens.
 
I feel your pain OP. Yeah its not a huge deal but unless you have had it yourself it can be annoying. I park my car away from my flat as they often get hit with footballs. They hit balls against the side of my flat which echos through the whole building. Hit my windows etc.

There is a huge park right behind me which none of the kids use, probably as the parents wont let them play there and are too lazy to supervise them.

You can all say I'm being old and grumpy but I'm sure you wouldn't be pleased with random kids kicking a ball into your back garden and climbing over the fence to fetch it.

There are other kids on the street who respect other people's property and keep themselves to themselves. They come out to play but dont come any near other people's car.
