Jack’ll be back — despite all the firepower the bad guys rain down on him.

Kiefer Sutherland has signed on for three more seasons as superhero agent Jack Bauer on Fox’s “24.”

As part of the deal, Sutherland will establish a production company based at 20th Century Fox Television to develop original programming, the studio announced Monday. He will also serve as a co-executive producer of the hit drama.

Sutherland “is an extraordinary actor with amazing instincts. He’s fiercely intelligent, and he has fantastic taste in material,” studio co-president Dana Walden said in a statement.

“When he told us he had ambitions to create and produce television series, we jumped at the chance to help him achieve that goal,” she said.

No financial details were disclosed.

Sutherland has starred for five seasons as Bauer, who works for the fictional federal Counter-Terrorist Unit (CTU).

As the show plays out in real time, with each season covering 24 hours, Bauer faces crisis after crisis.

In past episodes, he discovered his wife’s murdered body, fought heroin addiction, saved humanity from terrorists and faked his own death.

The role won him a Golden Globe award and two Screen Actor’s Guild awards.

Sutherland will also appear in the upcoming film “The Sentinel” with Kim Basinger and Michael Douglas.

From the current season so far, I'm pretty happy with this news... but I really think they need to end it on a high, or even kill Jack off to finish it all off.

I got a bit bored of it :/
First season was fantastic, second season was still very good, third season was entertaining, and then it just got uninteresting for me so I've had no interest in it.
Just feels a bit like a lot of TV at the moment, they find a working formula then repeat it ad nauseum.

Maybe it is me, but I find it a bit predicable these days - Jack always succeeding. I mean, we all know that the bad guys will loose and the good guys win.

I agree, kill Jack completly or at least have a different main character and different location and possibly orangisation.

I wish they wouldn't announce stuff like this so far in advance. It's like when they announce who's signed up for film sequels before the first is even out of the cinemas - great, so now I know this character and that character survives.

Good news this, I don't care that its predicatble you could probably say that about most tv series and movies. Jack is god in my eyes and I can't wait for him to snap another bad guys neck or torture someone for info.

Thanks for telling me he faked his own death, not seen that one

With respect, it was on TV a year ago and it's been out on DVD for ages. It's hardly anyones fault if you are miles behind is it :p

Expecting no mentions at all of what happens would be like expecting nobody to discuss the results of a football match that took place last year incase anyone has yet to watch it.

Good good. Still enjoy the programme immensley have only wathced up to the end of series 4 as it buggs me watching it on Tv as i don't want to wait a week for the next episode, watched series 4 in 2 days :D and thoroughly enjoyed it.

They have said that next season they may go "on the road" and film some in other locations (I'm sure somewhere I read about a peice potentially being shot in London) - maybe this'll help spruce things up a little.

I still really enjoy though, and to be honest, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm still really enjoying it too. I'm glad there are going to be some more seasons as its one of my all time favourite programmes. I think kiefer plays Jack very well.

I read that the other day.....All I can say is that it's good news :D Season 5 been great so far, role on Day 6! :D

Great news, season 5 has been awesome so far.Just makes me wonder what more exciting storylines they will have in the next few series and will they run out of storylines. Hope not it is is a great series!

I'm a bit of a 24 addict, and have been limiting myself to around one Jack Bauer post per day, but hey 24 threads let me kick back....

The city of Los Angeles once named a street after Jack Bauer in gratitude for his saving the city several times. They had to rename it after people kept dying when they tried to cross the street. No one crosses Jack Bauer and lives.

Passed out, surrounded by terrorists and nerve gas, and handcuffed to a table leg, Jack Bauer laughed to himself and said, "I have them right where I want them."

If everyone on "24" followed Jack Bauer's instructions, it would be called "12".

Superman wears Jack Bauer pajamas.

This is excellent news, I'm a big 24 fan and have seen them all up to the very latest episode on season 5. Yes its predictable but still very entertaining and the characters are great, you really get to like them, then they get smoked shocking you to the very core  :D .
