Yes just like you can use any android or iOS device as a kindle as well, but you'll be reading on a normal lcd screen which defeats the point of using it as a kindle in my opinion.

Personally I don't like reading a lot on lcd screens I much prefer the kindle's e-ink display, much nicer on my eyes.

Just picking up on this last comment, the Kindle Fire is not an e-ink display though is it?
If not, is it actually any "better" for reading e-books than the Galaxy Nexus 7?
I do rather like the idea of being able to read books and magazines in full colour, which would also mean that I wouldn't have to subscribe to so many 'dead tree' ones each month!

It'll be absolutely no different, I imagine the kindle software will be better in some way on the fire but in terms of actually reading then the Nexus will be exactly the same.

Thanks for the quick confirmation... if the 'readability' is no better, then I think I will probably get more out of the Nexus 7!
Will probably wait until a bit nearer Christmas, although I can't see the prices falling at all before then.
