Never used a SSD drive before and would like one just as an O.S drive to have a play.

I assume having it as an O.S drive will give noticeable benefits over a standard 7200 HDD?

I know 30GB is not a lot but it is a birthday present and I dont want to take the **** yet it is something I would like to have play with.

Advice welcome.

Thanks.

Why just as an OS drive? Feels like you wouldn't see the full benefit of having an SSD for just that.

See if you could stretch to an 40GB X25-M or a Corsair F40. The extra space gives you a bit more leeway to put your favourite game on or some working space if you do video editing etc. The 30GB Kingston isn't fantastic performance wise either when it comes to 4K Reads/Writes, which are an SSD's speciality, It'd still be much better than even a velociraptor, but with the Intel only £15 more It's a bit of a no-brainer.

Well i'd have a problem with that assumption seeing that i have about 10TB of data on one pc with a 256gb SSD OS drive, it'd definetly be an expensive endeavour :p

Seriously 30GB will disappear in no time. Also without the apps on, you'll find the machine fast in some areas and slow in others (ie when the app is loading things). Best to go with a 60GB minimum or 120GB.
