Hi all, ok here's the problem...

When i right songs on the geetar, i tend to often play chords that iv'e made up, because i like the sounds of them.

Obviously i know these random shapes will have proper chord names, it's just i dont know how to work the names out.

Are there any programs where you can put the fret numbers into, and it will tell you the name of your chord?

I don't know of any programs, but learn your scales and you'll be able to work them out on your own.

There are also plenty of books with chord patterns and progressions you can follow.

Knowing the names of your chords can be handy, but do you really need to know the exact names of them?

It's more important that you're playing chords that you think sound nice in your guitar parts. You can always write the notes down on paper or a chord diagram so you don't forget them.

If you really want an idea of what chords you're playing then power tab software can do this, google for the software then go to the chord dictionary.

But aye Gilly is right, try and read up on your theory, once you get the basics of how to create chords it's all really a simple process :)

Thanks, i believe its more importiant that they sound good, it's just you know, i get people asking me "Whats that chord?" im like, dunno mate.

Thanks! :)
