Lack of awareness on WW1/2

If it wasn't for my artificial hip and severe arthritis I would see to you sonny! (waves zimmer frame angrily).

:D They are indeed fascinating to learn more about, especially as you've got a personal link with your dads soldiering. There's all sorts of wonderful characters in the two World Wars (as I suppose there will be in any war) but because they have been so widely written about it is easier to find out more about them, one of my favourites is Fighting Jack Churchill, a quite remarkable man.

Why is your job asking you stuff about WW2 anyway? Do you work at the imperial war museum?

See below for an explanation as to what Monserrat was asked about.

We were doing the equal opportunities section of the induction, not being racist, sexist etc. The question on the questionnaire was asking when equal pay was introduced. The answer was 1946. Some of my group knew that it was around the year that WW2 ended. This prompted the uninformed into asking when the war ended and went from there.

Watching that now, very good. I do find the whole malmedy trial a bit well of a farce. The Germans killed soilders instead of having to move them.

Yet Ronald Spiers is lauded as a killing machine when he does the same to germans. He never served any war crime trial for the murdering he commited. Winters himself said he often killed for shock value and would have served trial had they not needed combat leaders.

Also saw snippets the other day of the Auschwitz: The Nazis And The Final Solution. Ordered the dvd it was an amazing documentary from what I saw.
